ELECTION: Obama fails to deliver on expectations

Re: “Mitt Romney’s character in question (letter ,7-14).

The writer seems to assume that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is a serial liar and President Obama is a man of virtue. I understand this opinion from the view of an obviously impassioned Obama supporter. However, if the author wished to explore “truth” he may have wanted to explain why Obama has become the most divisive president in U.S. history, or a president who has failed to live up to the high expectations that he led us all to believe in 2008 would be the case.

Obama has turned out to be just another master politician. I don’t take much stock in articles about Romney from the Boston Globe, which it seems is an active cheerleader for the Obama re-election campaign.

I have seen reports from multiple sources that Romney legally unwound his leadership position at Bain Capital over a three-year period and disclosed that material information to clients through SEC filings and fund prospectuses. Even the Washington Post (hardly a right-wing publication) has disputed “facts” from the Obama campaign.

The election in November is going to be a huge test in what kind of economy this nation will have going forward. There will be two visions on the ballot: one that has made this nation the wealthiest (even with its imperfections) in history, or one that is modeled after socialistic Europe that will control your hard-earned assets and lives forever.

  1. Well said David. It seems most people are getting their information on Romney through attack ads and a few other biased publications, not fact checking organizations.

Unfortunately, the Obama campaign repeats these lies time and again. Not only is it beneath the office, it is everything he promised not to be.

Obama’s past is mixed with radicals and drug use. And that is only what we know after years of right wing publication searching through the tracks his handlers tries to cover up. We know his books are a complete lie, made up to redefine a man into something he isn’t (and make him a lot of money).

Romney is an honest family man and formerly a great businessman. He is without a doubt the better candidate to lead America.

  2. “most people are getting their information on Romney through attack ads and a few other biased publications, not fact checking organizations….right wing publication searching through the tracks”

And not one of those “right wing publications” would be biased, would they? LOL

  3. What’s pathetic is your obvious double standard about bias.

  4. I truly appreciate the Hill family on this blog. They show any casual reader the illogical and childish actions of the far left.

Rather then debate, they attempt weak personal attacks. Sad

  5. Ah, the ever-present lie that Obama is a socialist. The far right has a vision of America where the richest 10% will own 90% of all its wealth and corporations will determine what policies we put into place, not its real human citizens.

Oh, I forget, decades of ultra conservative and right wing politics have already put us there.

  6. CT, the leftists wouldn’t be able to define “debate” if you handed them a dictionary and marked the page for them.

  7. Tuddo- you proved yesterday that you have no interest in actually learning what republican economic principals are. You would rather repeat blog-talking points. Why? Why not educate yourself (yes, you need to go to a conservative site to read about conservative economics) and have a rational debate?

Wlake- understand, but I will keep trying. At a minimum a rare fence sitter will come along and read these comments. They will reason and fact vs emotion and rhetoric.

  8. menopaws says:

Obama the “socialist” always cracks me up………..Pure Fox News and Limbaugh—–if he was a socialist, he would have nationalized all the banks, eliminated health insurance companies and nationalized all the auto industry………..Instead, he saved all of them as private corporations…..but, hey, never let facts get in the way of labels, inaccurate or not…….As far as him being divisive—let’s see:” He is a socialist, Muslim, terrorist sympathizer who is a crony capitalist, communist, kenyan and not an American citizen” Did I get all the various names and accusations hurled at this divisive President????? Get a clue—the American Taliban, aka, Republican Party is the one who used all these names and hurled all these accusations……..If Mittens can’t take it from Obama–Putin will chew him up and spit him out……….He is a serial whiner who trashed every opponent with ugliness in the primaries—now he’s whining because he is playing in the Big Leagues and he isn’t up to it…..Pushing around Hermann Cain or that moron Perry is a lot easier than Obama……I personally believe Obama isn’t playing rough enough—time to put the trash out on the curb for pick-up!!!!! Yeah, he’s the one that is divisive….Show me one face of color in a Romney ad…..people of color need not apply with the Mormons…..

  9. Lol! Meno, you just called a large part of America (those that vote Republican) terrorists. And people wonder why this country is divided.

Stating that BHO (and all progressives) believe socialist, statist solutions are the answer is not extreme or far fetched. It is the truth. If you take it as an insult, so be it. Call a spade a spade, be honest with yourselves.

Nice Putin plug. BHO has handled him so well, giving him secret technology and caving in on missle defense. Great example of his failures.

  10. CT7, I do know what Romney now stands for, unlike his old moderate conservative stance in Massachusetts. I also know it is the same as the ever-more far-right corporate-controlled Republican Party.

I believe in looking at results instead of rhetoric.

Between 1948 and 1979, while moderate/progressive policies of demand-side economics were in place, 33% of the growth in wealth and income went to the top 10%, with 66% to the bottom 90%.

Since 1979, when supply-side, trickle-down Reaganomics, and conservative policies were put in place, all of the growth has gone to the top 10% and none to the bottom 90%.

  11. Obama is the first president that I’m aware of that constantly attacks the peoducers and job creators, the very people who feed him and his family. That takes a lot of gall!

  12. should be “producers”

  13. frosty, what hyou say sounds like what Southerners said about abolitionists:

“How dare those slaves criticize the very people that put those crusts of bread on their table and give them straw to sleep on?”

  14. averageJose says:

While Romney was saving the Olymics and creating jobs Obama was smoking weed and snorting cocaine.

  15. Tuddo- why the gap for all those years? Why ignore Reagan and Clinton years? Odd.

But, Bush followed Keysenian principles. So thanks for proving the point that big govt, big spending fails the middle class.

  16. CT7, nope, you’re wrong again. Bush followed supply-side economics – give big tax breaks and government support to the wealthiest and it will trickle down into gains for the lower two thirds. Didn’t work, never has, and Romney and the Tea Partiers want more of the same.

And, I don’t know about any gap. The way I read iot, it presents all the years between 1948 and now.

Cinton implemented a few demand-side policies, but the economy was not in a severe depression like it is now, so a little tweak here and there fixed it. he raised taxes when he needed to, but mainly continued the corporate gains and low taxes for the wealthy.

  17. As long as Congress and SCOTUS are doing their jobs, No President will ever be able to deliver on all their campaign promises.

Oh Lord, won’t you give me those old time checks and balances.

    Right wing real speak:

Debate: the GOP telling the rest of us what we will do.

Compromise: everybody agreeing to do what the GOP has told us.

GOP economic policy = more for the rich, none for the workers.

IMO – the GOP and all who support them are Un-American, and have sold out to the international Corporations.

Teddy Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Dwight David Eisenhower were three REPUBLICANS that attached the so called ‘producers and job creators’ and did so when the production and job creation was happening in America and not in other countries, many of whom do not really like us.

Oh, and Richard Nixon gave us the EPA.

It seems your right wing spin just became a dead-man’s spiral.

‘big government always fails the middle class’ – so do small, weak governments such as the GOP claims they favor.

The GOP is not and never has been on the side of working and middle class Americans (although they a good job of convincing the zombie base that they are).\

‘W’ once addressed a politcal fund raiser attended by his rich backers, and addressed them with words along the line of ‘Some call you the haves and the have mores. I just call you MY BASE.’

What were you smoking and snorting when you were in high school; and how many jobs have you created?

  18. What happened between 1979 and 2000?

Come on. And I already showed you the myth of trickle down economics. Prove me wrong

  19. And Tuddo, please explain the Bush stimulus…

Tax cuts favoring the poor and check to everybody. On the fairness scale, which was better? His of BHOs union/green energy waste?

  20. menopaws says:

CT7—-There are people currently in government who have signed loyalty pledges not to EVER raise taxes, given to them by Grover Norquist: a man who does not hold an elective office. Those pledges are more important to this group than their oath to preserve, protect, and defend the constitution of this country…..In my opinion, that is, indeed a form of domestic TERRORISM……..George Bush Senior, a true Republican had many of the same comments as I did about those people and Mr. Norquist and he is a true REPUBLICAN. Read his interview in Time Magazine. Those current whack jobs in the House are not—they are strident, angry, loathe all forms of government and want nothing more than to dismantle our government. They are not really the party of freedom, the Tea Party—they are the AMERICAN TALIBAN………I stand by that judgement quite firmly, knowing that I am not the first to say it and far from the last. They are dangerous, ignorant zealots. Most zealots usually are terrorists.

  21. Calling other people zealots? Yet you have blind faith in a failed man and use a man who ran on “no new taxes” as an example.

  22. menopaws says:

CT7—-I have respect for this man who spent a lifetime serving this country and was a war hero to boot……What has Grover done for his country? Or Mittens, the whiner? What is truly sad about you is that, while I am a Democrat, I can respect and admire some Republicans……….I can be fair minded and appreciate those who I may not always agree with…..In your narrow little world—it is 100% fealty, regardless of whether all of it is rational, smart or even sane………..You will never be a leader but your blind loyalty makes you a good little troll to deliver their message…….Kind of sad…….Go pucker up to Rush or Grover—I hear them calling you….

  23. Since 1979, when supply-side, trickle-down Reaganomics, and conservative policies were put in place, all of the growth has gone to the top 10% and none to the bottom 90%.

    Read more here: http://blog.thenewstribune.com/letters/2012/07/16/political-character/#storylink=cpy

  24. CT7, what Bush stimulus do you need explaining? Tax cuts and benefits for oil companies? Subsidies and no-bid contracts for Cheney’s companies?

  25. took14theteam says:

So in an interview, Obama says he realizes that the politics in DC is harder to overcome than he thought. That is why “Hope and Change” hasn’t taken hold. Then the same day his campaign releases a statement stating Romney a Felon.

    Oh the irony…

  26. LeePHill says:

“It seems most people are getting their information on Romney through attack ads and a few other biased publications, not fact checking organizations.”

“Obama’s past is mixed with radicals and drug use.”

How can someone put those two sentences in the same comment and expect to be taken seriously?

  27. LeePHill says:

“And I already showed you the myth of trickle down economics. Prove me wrong”

    It get’s funnier……

  28. LeePHill says:

    “averageJose says:
July 16, 2012 at 1:38 pm While Romney was saving the Olymics and creating jobs Obama was smoking weed and snorting cocaine.”

THERE WE GO….one of the many lies.

Romney was accepting Congressional earmarks during the late 1990s to “save the Olympics” and Obama was an elected official in the State of Illinois. (check Romney’s record of being elected – only once)

Barack Obama admits to smoking pot (WOW!!!! Honesty!!!) and “a little blow when you could afford it (WOW!!!! MORE HONESTY!!!), during his school days, which were long over by the time SuperRomney got around to accepting Congressional earmarks.

Now let’s take a look at Romney’s recent statements. He claims he wasn’t working for Bain during the time he was working on the Olympics…..except….he told the voters of Massachusetts that he continued working in their state and retained residence while working on the Olympics in Salt Lake – thus qualifying to run for Governor. So….which lie is the right lie? Did he lie to the voters of Massachusetts, or is he lying to the voters of the United States today?

I’ll vote for a guy that was honest about smoking dope and doing a little blow as a kid….long before a guy who has a continual lie going about his employment and his residence, for the purposes of attaining political office. Not to mention his taxes…..

Then there is the story about living in his son’s basement…

I can’t wait to see who claims “Forbes” is a leftist propaganda rag

  29. took14theteam says:

I wish I thought my excrement smelled as good as you think yours does. (LPH)

0bama is a liar. The sooner you leftists realize that, the sooner we can rid America of the Chicago thug and start healing America.

  30. Tuddo- be a man/woman and admit you were wrong. The article you picked skipped decades of the economy, while using an economic theory NO right leaning politician has supported as part of their thesis.

Come on Tuds, show some honor.

  31. A drug used, dog eater, liar, friend of terrorists, failed economy, hired a tax cheat as sec tres, Gates and beer summit, my son looks like, fast and furious, stimulus, ignoring S-B. D-F in the downturn, insane entitlement growth. Total failure. That is just domestic policy.

  32. menopaws says:

CT&—Such a good little troll–name calling, ugly language…..Not a measurable idea anywhere, but you can flap your mouth with the best of the mindless……………..Like I said–go pucker up–Grover and Rush have some new spin for you……Next post–let’s see if you can move your lips without help…..It isn’t worth anyone’s energy to argue ideas with you—you don’t have any of your own…….spin, spin, spin—Good little troll……

  33. LeePHill says:

menopaws….this is no different than the 2008 election. Remember the outcome of that?

  34. LeePHill says:

“hired a tax cheat as sec tres”

You know why someone can be called “a tax cheat”?

They have submitted their taxes for examination.

    Any wonder why Romney won’t?????????

  35. CT7, be a man and admit that articles that use facts instead of right-wing propaganda will be attacked by you.

The entire time period was grouped into two – before 1979 and after 1979. Why do you have any trouble seeing that and seeing a chart which plainly shows that?

Most economists show that the Congressional activities in the late 1970’s and then the election of Reagan changed our economic system dramatically. We moved from a moderate demand-side economy and fiscal approach to a supply-side approach championed by conservatives that became stronger and stronger until it now has captured our economy completely. That is why the study looked at those two periods to see what has happened to income and wealth.

  36. charliebucket says:

ROTFLMAO…..seriously…..comments from the right straight from Limbaugh’s mouth.

wow. This country is in serious trouble if the likes of Rush are providing one political party’s talking points.

just wow. there is no need to try to debate these people but good luck to you posters who are trying.

Here, have a brick wall to bang your head against…same difference….

  37. Romney has submitted everything required by law. Period. The left even gets some bonus info to dig through with the SEC filings.

So NOW you want to vet a candidate? Why did you and media skip that step 4 years ago?

Pause, learn paragraph structure and punctuation usage.

Tuds- you are desperate. First off, I could care less how much the 1% makes. I am glad they are making a ton, someone has to pay for the entitlements.

  38. LeePHill says:

Romney submitted 20 years of tax returns to the McCain campaign.

    They chose Palin.

  39. Tuds- I am still waiting for you to find me an economic text or right wing pol pushing “trickle down economics”.

And did you even read your own link? No, it does not compare pre/post 1979. It is pre 79 and post 2000. I find it funny I have to explain your own documentation.

And who cares? This is more OWS, envy and jealousy. If some guy or gal hits it big, good for them! I desire to me them, fiscally. That they are rich helps us all, and it does not stop someone else from getting rich.

  40. CT7,
What happened between 1979 and 2000?

For one thing, the income tax burden shifted for the poor and the rich to the middle class (specifically those making $65,000 to $150,000 per year).

For another, stimulus funds were spent to create jobs IN AMERICA.

If you proved the ‘myth of trickle down’, you showed that it does not work anymore than ‘supply side economics does.’

    Bush ‘stimulus’ =
Give money to a rich man, he hides it to avoid paying taxes on it.
Give money to a poor man, he spends it creating jobs and demand for goods and services IN THIS COUNTRY.

Lowest tax rates in decades, swiss cheese tax code, foreign (no taxable) bank accounts = middle class, not 1% class, are paying for corporate entitlements.

Fast and furious: Started under Bush.
    Ended under Obama.
Continued illegally by rogue federal agents and bush era federal officials.

S-B & D-F also ignored by Congress which is the only branch of government that has to power to enact both.

Romney has not even submitted enough fiscal and tax records that would allow the Senate to hold a Cabinet Level Appointment Review.

20 years of data to McCain VP committee and they picked Palin.
One has to wonder just what the Mitt Flopper is trying to hide.

Eat dog as a child.(fyi – dog eating is common in large parts of Asia)

Economy failed under Bush do to Bush’s failed economic policies. Recovery efforts blocked by republicons to prevent Obama’s reelection.

IMO – those who signe a no tax pledge have violate their oaths of office, and should be dismissed and disqualified from government service.

For the record, the Obama Campaign commercials said ‘Romney might have committed a felony.’
A not very subtitle difference lost on flying foxes entertainment spews.

  41. alindasue says:

CT7 said, “Romney has submitted everything required by law. Period.”

The same can be said about President Obama, yet the cries for his “real birth certificate” continue. Just as Mitt Romney shouldn’t have to submit his last dozen tax returns, President Obama shouldn’t have to keep reshowing his birth certificate after he had already submitted it to the satisfaction of the election committee when he first filed to run for office.

Sometimes, the political nonsense reaches the point of ridiculous – and no one political party has a monopoly on ridiculous demands. They are all getting pretty silly these days.

  42. CT7, one last time I will respond to your ridiculous challenges that show you do not know how to use the internet and you do not understand economics at all:

“It’s kind of hard to sell ‘trickle down,’ so the supply-side formula was the only way to get a tax policy that was really ‘trickle down.’ Supply-side is ‘trickle-down’ theory.”

—David Stockman, Ronald Reagan’s budget director

  43. LeePHill says:

“I desire to me (sic) them, fiscally”

    We’ll assume you meant “be”.

This is precisely what the “1%” WANTS

  44. Larry, you assumed correctly. Do you wish to increase your wealth? Leave something for your kids or grand kids?

Why would the 1% care what I want, aside from a consumer aspect? You imply the 1% is a fixed set of people with like beliefs. You believe that?

Thanks Tuds! Ironically that is in your blacked out period. What does that have to do with Bush or post 2000? Govt grew. He used keynesian stimulus.

    Keep trying.

  45. CT7,
I would rather leave my kids the Democratic Republic know as the United States of America.

I do not want to leave my kids the United Corporations of American, where 10% of the population owns 90%.

What Bush used was the credit of the US to fight two unnecessay wars.

Keynesian stimuli require spending funds raised vie taxes.

  46. CT7, maybe I have been to harsh on you and you really don’t know how to use the internet. Here is the report I was referring to and that was linked to and discussed in the initial link I provided. I thought the pie chart showing before 1979 and then what has happened afterward was easier to look at.

Here is the entire period between 1918 and 2008 if that is what you are asking for.

If you use the little slider thing you can see that between 1979 and 2000 The richest 10% got 87% of the growth in income, the bottom 90% shared 13%, and the tiny gains in the middle class were during Democratic years.

  47. menopaws says:

All of you wonderful people trying to reason with CT&—like me, hope springs eternal……But, as one of you pointed out, it is 2008 all over again………what is between CT7’s ears is a giant TV screen with Fox News blaring 24/7, with occasional bathroom breaks to listen to Rush………It is indeed a brick wall and we waste both our energy and our time dealing with this obedient little propaganda spewing troll……Send some money to Obama 2012, in his honor……..That should be fun!!!!

  48. like the horse that can be led to water, the best way to handle those like CT7 is to lead them to facts and the truth.

  49. I’ll take unbiased, complete facts all day. For example, when you remove the Internet mega millionaires from the period of the 90s, the numbers change dramatically. Another interesting fact you OWS whiners ignore is the changer over in your hated 1%.

I know you don’t care, it does not fit with your class warfare talking points.

  50. tuddo, Are you comparing Obama to a slave? The real slaves in this country are the producers who pay the cost of the free-riders. Instead of being fed by the plantation owner, they are now being fed by the people who get up and go to work everyday.

  52. handsgruber, politifact lists ten pages of promises kept and four of promises not yet kept, pretty good ratio for a president with a group of “Just say No” Republicans working against his every effort.

If you want to see the promises kept which are not yet kept in your list, then vote for Obama and make sure Democrats have a majority in the House and over a 60% majority in the Senate.

Politifact also scores statements made by the4 candidates.

So far 69% of Romneys are half-true or worse, compared to Obamas 53% or worse.

Romeny has told 13 (9%) “pants on fire” lies, while Obama has uttered only 1%

  53. Hans,

First – go look up which branch of government actually has the power to do these things.

Second – how about producing a list of what Romney has already promised HE will do, and include the branch of government that has the power to effect the change.

Oh, also a few examples of Obama not keeping the promises you listed, along with your source(s) would also help.

  54. But in all fairness, he has made it easier to get food stamps and welfare.

  55. hansgruber says:

tuddo-Obama had that 60% of the Senate and the house for the first two years.

xring-I did give the source, to bad you didn’t read the entire list (Hint-it’s at the bottom)

    frosty-that true

  56. took14theteam says:

xring doesn’t believe in providing sources himself, so he didn’t know what a source looked like at the bottom of your post.

  57. took14theteam says:

And tuddo needs to clean those obama colored glasses….
