TNT: Can we trust reports containing serious errors?

Sunday’s article on navigation by smart phone inside buildings was interesting, but how can we trust the accuracy of the report when it included a seriously flawed description of how GPS works?

GPS receivers do not send signals to satellites, they only receive signals from multiple satellites which they use to compute the current location. Smart phones with GPS receivers might report their position, but that’s done via the phone system.
