OBAMA: President isn’t ‘outsourcing’ U.S. military

Letter by Honey K. Trout, Eatonville on July 11, 2012 at 11:17 am with 14 Comments »

Re: “President is outsourcing our military” (letter, 7-8).

The letter writer complained about the swearing-in ceremony done by the military and accused President Obama of outsourcing the military to foreigners.

What rock has he lived under? The military has sworn in foreign nationals since at least the 1970s. It is done every year and has been a tradition in the service for a long time to encourage those who would serve us with citizenship.

This was not started by the current president, and several past Republican presidents have even been present during many of these ceremonies.

  1. sandblower says:

Ms. Trout, thanks for your letter, but you must remember the author of the other one is a fellow named Lyle Laws and he regularly has no idea about which he writes.

  2. surething says:

Damn it Sandblower, you beat me to it. lol

  3. MililaniJag says:

Perhaps Mr.Laws doesn’t realize his “foreigners” are legal immigrants?

  4. LeePHill says:

Honey Trout – when you think of Lyle, think of “Macbeth” – a tale told…

  5. Hey letter writer. Do you always start your discussions about what rock someone lives under? Oh! that’s right, you’re probably entitled to say those things since more than likely you’re a liberal.

  6. Frosty,
‘living under a rock’ is a fine old Americanism that someone is out of touch with or sheltered from civilized society, hence out of unaware of current events.

Its current popularity may be connected to its recent use in a national advertising campaign for a major insurance company.

I wonder if you . . . No I guess not, unless the rock had power and the internet.

  7. change ‘hecne ot of unaware’ to ‘ hence unaware’

  8. xring, I’ll take it from an expert on living under rocks. Thanks for the clarification.

  9. frosty the gopper, I’m not the one who can’t see the forest because of the trees and am always put the cart before the horse.

  10. frosty – I’ll believe you that you aren’t living under rocks if you can show that that bridge, where you lay waiting for the Billy goats gruff is made of wood or some other material.

  11. xring “and am always put the cart before the horse”, huh? Did someone kick your rock over too early this morning? Or maybe you and beerboy were up too late last night testing some of his brew. Both letters make about the same amount of sense. Peas in a pod.

  12. frosty – I keep trying to dumb down my posts so that you have a chance to understand them. I apologize if I failed on this most recent one.

  13. took14theteam says:

Didn’t someone accuse someone of being condescending on another letter?

    Just asking….

    ;-)

  14. took14 – when he isn’t as swift as a bag of rocks it is hard to not be condescending.
