FIREWORKS: Proof that we’re doing OK, right?

I stepped outside my door Wednesday night and watched all of the legal and illegal fireworks being blown up and decided that the American economy must be doing OK.

If folks have enough money to “burn up” in all of the fireworks, then they must have enough for food and rent and clothing and they must have good jobs – right?

The economy is still bad, it’s just people are still stupid. They waste what money they have on fireworks, slot machines, cigs, liquor and let their kids eat mac&cheese.

And they let these people vote?

  2. klthompson says:

lThe voting part really gives me heartburn.

  3. All the fireworks stands I saw after the 4th had a huge surplus of stock, didn’t look like they even even!

  4. What it does prove is that welfare seems to be over paying these people. My vision of the typical fireworks weirdo is, shaved head, tattoos on the ankle, beer-belly, four kids in an apartment or trailer or a rented house and three under-fed, terrified pit bulls in the back yard. It’s not possible to talk with people like that since they have an I.Q. somewhere around room temperature.

  5. Kevindot1 says:

Yes, I am guessing those that bought fireworks have jobs, pay their bills, and have a little bit of fun money. What is your empty point though? Just because most people do have jobs and pay their bills and have a little extra fun money, that doesn’t mean there still isn’t a higher percentage than what we’d like to see of unemployed citizens who most likely didn’t buy a single firework at all this week. Your argument could be transformed into many different things; look at all the people going to see movies – Proof that we’re doing OK, right? Look at all the people eating out at bars and restaurants – Proof that we’re doing OK, right? Look at all the people shopping at the mall – Proof that we’re doing OK, right? Of course none of those things are “Proof that we’re doing OK” and neither is your condescending letter.

Frosty, I am educated. I have had the same private-sector job working in the IT field for almost 10 years for a nationwide corporation based in downtown Tacoma. I have no tattoos, and have never shaved my head. I have no illegitimate children. And, I have a 5 1/2 year old black lab. And, have never collected a welfare of government assistance check in my life. And, I lit off fireworks this year. You know why? Because it’s FUN!

Boy, you really nailed that stereotype.

  7. FletchFFletch says:

Frosty, go to a Reservation next year and observe the clientele. You would be very surprised.

  8. Kevin, o.k., so you haven’t quite reached the point of shaving your head, but you’re well on the way. Please don’t bore me with the “I’m educated” stuff. I’ve had it up to my eyebrows with “educated” people. What does that mean anyway? That you managed to sit through some boring nonsense for a number of years and walk out with some worthless degree in social work? BTW, Black labs have more tolerance for noise by virtue of breeding than a dog taht is not of the sporting group. Lastly, you never mentioned whether you are a temporary inhabitant (renter) or homeowner.
