CARTOON: Intellectual dishonesty links tea party, ‘birthers’

A Sunday editorial cartoon apparently depicts a tea party member as a “birther.” Ironic that the Obama “birther” rumor was started by the 2008 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. So much for intellectual honesty from The News Tribune editorial staff.

  1. aislander says:

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME, TNT?

That headline implies that the “intellectual dishonesty” resides with the Tea Party and not with YOU!

  2. bobcat1a says:

Rob, it’s not the raising of the question that makes one a “birther.” It’s the persistent mindless refusal to accept the facts and the purblind insistence on a conspiracy that makes one a “birther.” Hillary’s campaign asked a question and accepted the answer; it did not go on a Trump style hysterical witchhunt. There’s a difference.
Aislander, you need to reread the headline. it is saying that the cartoon was intellectual dishonesty. It is describing what Rob’s letter asserts. That’s what a headline is supposed to do.

  3. aislander says:

You need to reread the headline, bc1a. If you read ONLY the headline, without reading the letter, it links the Tea Party and birthers with “intellectual dishonesty” by implying that was the thrust of the cartoon. VERY unclear.

Nice use of “purblind,” by the way–I haven’t seen the word since I used it in a comment a few months ago. We should employ unusual words more often to help broaden the public’s shrinking vocabularies…

  4. Aislander

The headline clearly states that the dishonesty was linking the Tea Party and the Birthers which was clearly the intent of the cartoon.

    IMO:
Some, but not all, Tea Party supporters are Birthers.
    And
Some, but not all, Birthers, are Tea Party supporters.

  5. aislander – I read the headline and knew exactly what it was about. But then, I’m used to reading for comprehension.

So this Teapotter is all upset about a CARTOON that suggests that some of the other Pot residents are also Birthers….

And…youse tea-pees do know how papers subscribe to a service that provides their syndicated cartoons….TNT has some that are very Tea leaning, some that are more centrist – taking swipes at both sides, and some that are more Dem-supporting (they don’t have any real Left cartoonists). It seems pretty balanced.

Tempest in a tea pot. Perhaps you should switch to Chamomile

  6. The headline seemed clear enough to me. Maybe we’ve found the problem……

  7. menopaws says:

Does not matter—-you are always judged by the company you keep….Republicans never had the integrity to repudiate this crap–they never disavowed the whack jobs who were beating those ugly drums……So, get real—-you want purity of your ideas–quit opening your tent to those whose idea of purity is white, male, blue collar and angry……..Birthers are out of control and represent the delusional groups in this country……embracing that is the problem of the party–Tea Party types have yet to move away from their rhetoric and say they are racist………don’t get to whine if you climb in the same sandbox , do you???

  8. pantomancer says:

When I read the headline I assumed it meant that people linking the TEA Party and birthers were being intellectually dishonest.

  9. SwordofPerseus says:

Ironic the letter writer missed the irony of the cartoon.

  10. LeePHill says:

Is Hillary Clinton still running for president and is her campaign still asking about Obama’s heritage?

I do know that the issue of Obama’s birth certificate was discussed yesterday by Orly Taitz.

    Oh, that wasn’t funny.

  11. LeePHill says:

I love to watch aislander pole vault over mouse droppings.

It should be made an Olympic sport.

  12. aislander says:

Cleared YOU by a couple of feet, LPH…

  13. SwordofPerseus says:

Slander, you face-planted into the pole box. Try again. The headline was obvious.

  14. Hillary Clinton never had anything to do with the Birthers. And as for it being “intellectual dishonesty” to link the Tea Party and the Birthers? Take a look at this:
