FOOTBALL: Why couldn’t Banner give back – at UW?

Re: “Big man, big heart” (TNT, 6-26).

I have been a Washington Husky fan since 1950. In my opinion, the very best thing local football star Zach Banner could have given back to the community would have been to commit to Husky football. It would have started a chain reaction of football stars.

It’s fine to commit to Southern Cal, but do we need all this media attention? I only write this because many of us are still sensitive to the great loss of Banner.

  1. I only write this because many of us are still sensitive to the great loss of Banner.

You make it sound like he died.

Time to get some perspective upon what is really important. It is only a game.

  2. philichi says:

    It is George Bush’s fault.

  3. Nope…I’m sure it was Obama’s fault – W isn’t the president anymore!

  4. LeePHill says:

Local boy does good. Local community complains.

  5. BigSwingingRichard says:

One reason Zach may not be interested in the U could be because his biological father was a husky, a father he did not know he had for much of his childhood. If you need to blame someone, blame Lincoln Kennedy for that.

  6. MrCarleone says:

    Jesus Harold !

    Get-A-Life !

  7. LeePHill says:

    Oh yeah, Richard. That’s it.

It couldn’t have anything to do with the USC program and their access to television viewing which will increase awareness in him for pro scouts.

Small minds think all people are small minded.

  8. philichi says:

It is because of Wall Street, Bankers, and the Bush Tax cuts!

  9. Larry… you must be an effing duck.

  10. philichi says:

it is because of fossil fuel consumption, global warming, the war on women, and lack of funding for public education unioned teachers that poor Zack is going away.

  11. philichi – it was funny the first time. Not so on the second attempt. And, frankly, getting annoying by the third.

  12. Wow, this has turned into a sports board lately.

    I like it!

  13. commoncents says:

Bottom line is that this young man wants to make something of himself and then come back into the community and give back. He looked at the big picture and felt that USC would be a better avenue to that goal than the UW. Not many football people would disagree with that choice eitiher. Certainly staying in Washington would make them a better team but it wouldn’t necessarily make him a better player and most certainly wouldn’t allow him to showcase his skills on the national stage. Sorry but 2 lineman drafted in last 10 years doesn’t make one feel confident about the U’s ability to get him to the next level.

He’s obviously given this more than than the letter writer and a lot of posters on this board.

  14. It’s Banner’s choice where he wants to go. Maybe he wanted to experience something new, felt USC was a better fit. Maybe better looking cheerleaders, who knows?

    Isn’t USC on probation?

  15. LeePHill says:

Was philichi trying to be funny? I thought he was just commenting as usual.

  16. philichi says:

Over the years I have heard the Dems blame the hatred or our current President’s policies on racism. They have blamed the housing collapse on bankers and Wall street. They have blamed tropical storms on global warming. I have even heard them blame lack of funds for our current education system. As if $11,000 per kid per year can’t teach them to read.

Why not blame all of these things for Zack going to USC? It is equally as crazy, I know. However, why is it that my 2 friends on the left that are most annoyed?

  17. philichi – there are other threads to rebut your inane wanderings – go to the appropriate threads. This is an inane football thread.

  18. LeePHill says:

philichi – it seems that your laundry list of “racism”, “housing collapse” and “global warming” are all issues that not only the progressives disagree with you on, but honest moderate conservatives would also disagree with you, leaving you a part of a minority of about 30% of adults in America, that can’t see the forest for the trees.

Just because you have an ignorant position on those subjects, don’t expect the majority of adults to follow you.

  19. took14theteam says:

And Larry is the sole portrayer of truth.

What would life be like without him telling everyone he disagrees with that they are stupid and incompetent.

I wish I had that power.

  20. SandraKirstan says:

    philichi makes no sense

  21. frankiethomas says:

Harold, would you like some cheese for that whine? How about a nice wheel of Cougar gold?

  22. LeePHill says:

    LOL, Frankie….and I’m a longtime Husky fan!!!

Do you know what a Cougar Quarterback is?

Change from a buck for a 75 cent beer in Pullman.

    Cougar Gold is GREAT cheese.
