ELECTION: Green Party offers another direction

Letter by Bill F. Nerin, Gig Harbor on June 21, 2012 at 12:48 pm with 20 Comments »

I agree with Thomas Friedman’s column (TNT, 6-21), except for one statement: “But there will be no third-party candidate” to push either party.

The truth is that we do have a third-party candidate for president who espouses a platform of changes that would be the “shock therapy” that Friedman describes in his book, “That Used To Be Us.”

The Green Party candidate for president is Jill Stein, M.D., a graduate of Harvard University. Read her platform at www.jillstein.org/text_psou about what she would do as president, and see how this would change the direction of our country.

  1. How’s that Green Party working out in Europe? We don’t need another Harvard grad as president. we’ve already seen what they produce and don’t want anymore of it.

  2. aislander says:

I urge everyone to vote for Jill Stein, MD in 2012…

  3. Did anyone actually read his plans? Free housing, college (with all loans forgived), free healthcare, and a ‘living wage’ job for all.

Please leftists, vote for the doc. Spread the word. Why only go halfway towards communism voting Dem when you can jump in with both feet voting green.

  4. bobcat1a says:

Voting for the Green Party candidate gave us George Bush. How did that work out?

  5. aislander says:

No, seriously–Nerin makes sense: vote Green in 2012!

  6. aislander says:

Pay no attention to my moniker. I’m really xripubBlicocat1a. Vote Green!

  7. Go left/green !!! Vote for the doc!

  8. bobcat – Blaming Nader might make you loyal Dems feel better but the reality is – Gore ran an abysmal campaign – he should have blown W out of the water and Nader’s tiny “stealing” of the Left leaning vote was not a factor.

How do you know that those who voted for Nader would have voted for Gore? Perhaps they would have just stayed at home.

  9. If only Gore had won his home state.

  10. Frankenchrist says:

The Green Party is a nut magnet. So is the Libertarian Party.

  11. SwordofPerseus says:

Gore won the election in 2000, the Supreme Court, in complete disregard of the actual constitution appointed the George Bush as president. Bush was illegally appointed to office in Dec 2000. Don’t Forget, Bush’s Presidency was a lie and a crime. Which gave him licence to start all kinds of criminal activities which he and his cronies have profited wildly from…Just saying it was not voters we need to worry about, it’s who gets to count the votes!

  12. a vote for the green = a vote for the republicans.

  13. SOP – SCOTS ordered the Florida recount halted because it would have an irrevocable adverse impact on the political career of the plaintiff – one George Walker Bush.

  14. aislander, I finally caught on, GO GREEN PARTY!! They are looking out for the under-represented, the poor, the disadvantaged, the illegals, the gays, the minorities, the unions, etc etc etc.. Vote Green!!

  15. bobcat1a says:

Beerboy, make all the excuses you want. Reality is most Green voters would have voted for Gore if they hadn’t sabotaged themselves. Florida is all the answer you need. A tiny fraction of the green votes in Florida would have changed the results and we would have 4400 fewer dead soldiers.

  16. bobcat – your perceptions is your perception – not reality. It is speculation on your part to claim that Nader voters would have voted for Nader.

Fact is – if Gore had run a better campaign, Nader’s support would have been a completely moot.

btw – I voted for Gore.

  17. took14theteam says:

    Say it isn’t so, beerBoy…..

  18. In the 2010 elections several green party canidates were funded by right wing sources as a means to take votes away for dems.

  19. Evidence please.
