TNT: Headline was appalling

Re: “Brothers butchered teen, say authorities” (TNT, 6-5).

As a mother of teens, I am appalled at the front-page headline. Does it not matter to anyone at The News Tribune that that is referencing someone’s son?

You may have intended to express the severity of the crime, but with complete disregard for the young man’s family. He and his family deserved better than that.

Especially since the murderers claimed they were making chili, the butchering headline was rather insensitive. And inaccurate. They stabbed their victim several times – butchering suggests something else.

  2. Stabbed 30+ times is not several times….

  3. surething says:

Yeah, though the headline was harsh, it was not inaccurate.

  4. itwasntmethistime says:

I wasn’t appalled by the headline until I realized it was a big fat lie to grab attention. They didn’t cut him up, they stabbed him.

  5. I feel the headline was to get everyones attention and from the responses thats what happened.I know that what happened was too graphic to publish the Photographs and that is too bad as it would show how callous an act this was.Now will come the sob stories about what a terrible upbringing these two suffered and it wasn’t their fault.Maybe the Parents could be arrested for aiding and abetting these Criminals. If they are tried and convicted, look for the sentence to be something like 20 years to life with possibility of Parole after serving 10 years.Another example of how harsh Washington treats its criminals.

  6. stumpy567 says:

It’s time we stop pandering to morons who commit crimes like this.
Exterminate them as soon as they’re found guilty. Don’t waste taxpayer dollars trying to “rehabilitate” them. The criminal justice system and the penal system are a joke.

  7. beerBoy says:

Stabbed 30+ times is not several times….

So….is “several” more than three but less than 10?

Sorry to offend you – I should have written “many times”.

  8. I find the act of what these two did beyond appalling, more than the headline. My thoughts are with the family, not the headline.

  9. Bandito says:

There may be a line between literally butchering the victims body and cutting his body so badly that it was a butchering of sorts. The TNT may have crossed that line but in this case, not by very much. Not worth writing a letter about.
The TNT has bigger fish to fry. Oh wait! Are they actually frying fish?

  10. BlaineCGarver says:

Oh, Geeeez…..PC running amok again. Grow up and learn a different language if you can’t use THIS one properly: The calling of a wanton, savage killing is very properly called butchering…..

  11. BlaineCGarver says:

Are you really moronic enough to believe that the parents could POSSIBLY feel worse because of a word? Sorry for the rant, but Marla needs to find a life.

  12. Frankenchrist says:

How did that chili turn out?

  13. Frankenchrist – as the audience responded when a comedian made a funny 9/11 joke – “too soon”.
