LIQUOR: Great taste of Freedom Booze

Letter by J. Matthew Phipps, Gig Harbor on June 4, 2012 at 12:51 pm with 7 Comments »

On the first day of liquor sales, I went to an Albertson’s in Gig Harbor and purchased a bottle of aged rum. Sure, it was priced at $17.49 and I paid almost $7 in added tax, but this was a bottle of Freedom Booze. It tasted great.

This is the first step in removing the tyranny of a tax-happy government from my retail experience.

It is obvious our government wasn’t happy with the way we voted and they want to punish us for it, but we can start a new initiative to change our alcohol tax structure.

    J. Matthew — It’s not a government plot. Those aren’t new taxes. They are the same taxes you were paying when you bought your liquor from a state-run store. The price went up because the new vendors can.

Idon’t drink but bought a large bottle at Winco and shared with friends. The letter writter is right. It was freedom booze bought from workers that do not have to pay a union to donate to democrats.

Just writing this makes me want to jump off the wagon.

  3. I think all the anti-tax people need to drink more

  4. Fibonacci says:

Somehow paying the tax at the star run liquor store was tyranny but paying the tax at Winco is “Freedom Booze”? What twisted logic.

  5. Like I said, Ficonacci, they need to drink more.

  6. “I think all the anti-tax people need to drink more”

I think they drink too much!

  7. So, Mr. Phipps is happy to pay a higher base price + a large markup + a whapping big tax (which goes to the State) because it is a step in removing the tyranny of tax-happy government from his retail experience.

I do believe someone has over indulged in his retail experience.
