LIQUOR: Electorate swallowed corporate swill

Letter by Carol Dedrick, Tacoma on June 4, 2012 at 1:07 pm with 12 Comments »

We in Tacoma are lucky. Why? Two reasons: 1. Our liquor system was recently privatized, and 2. The News Tribune printed a letter to the editor from a disgruntled voter.

Rarely do such events combine to make such a timely point, and that point is this: Those who swallow the swill of corporate advertising are bound to end up choking on it.

The letter writer showed his obvious lack of research by bemoaning the taxes that were so clearly stated in the initiative he supported – the initiative written and financed by corporate interests.

Let this be a warning to all of you considering voting for the corporate favorite, Mitt Romney. Read the Romney-Ryan budget plan.

Understand that it means the end of Medicare as we know it. Understand that the elimination of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) means that children older than 18 will no longer have health insurance under a parent’s policy. Understand that if you have a pre-existing condition, you will not be able to get health insurance.

If experience is the best teacher, we in Tacoma are verging on a master’s degree. Use it wisely.

    Romney 2012 !!!

  2. Romney, Obama…..will either truly improve the economy, let alone the world economy?

  3. Go Romney, the only swill around here is the stuff you’re pitching…Get over it we’re tired of hearing your bleating…Better yet go buy a bottle, curl up in a ball…and tell someone who cares…

  4. menopaws says:

If you can’t understand that corporations are NOT people—please stay home and don’t vote. The Koch Brothers and Wall Street are counting on you to continue ruling this country for profit margins first, citizens second……….If you want your pocket picked by the same people who led our banks into near failure in 2008–vote Republican. De-regulation is the name of their game and it’s more of what got us in this mess in the first place. Romeny does what he is told by his corporate masters and Mr. Norquist. Hell, he even puckers up to the true whack job, Donald Trump……..Can’t wait to see what job they give Trump in the Romney cabinet………can you?????

  5. took14theteam says:

    Koch brothers, GLC#3.

  6. alindasue says:

Whoever you vote for or whatever the issue is, look beyond the advertisements and actually learn about the people or issue before voting. If you do that, you won’t be so surprised by the outcome and we’ll all be better off for your vote – even if we don’t all always agree what the vote should be.

  7. took14theteam says:

    Hey alindasue.

On another letter a few days back, you said Google your website to find out more information.

    Is this you? Just curious.

  10. alindasue says:

    took14theteam,

Yup. That’s me, although its been a while since I last participated in editing on Wikipedia.
I just Googled “alinda sue” and all but the last entry on the page were me. That’s what comes of having an unusual name, I guess.

The first result on the page was my website.

  11. “If experience is the best teacher”

Something the romney voters will never admit to.

  12. roussir says:

    Carol, you made my day.
Thank you for the well-made point and well-written letter.
