Among the many freedoms we Americans hold dear is the right to peaceably assemble and petition the government to address our concerns, but some of the protests that have been taking place in recent days have been pushing the envelope.
When do what are supposed to be peaceful gatherings cross over the line and become lawless rampages that allow protesters to spew their venom, disrupt emergency services and tie-up law enforcement officers who are needed in other areas?
During the recent NATO summit gathering in Chicago, many of the protesters behaved far more like malcontents just looking for an excuse to riot than peaceful citizens hoping to resolve problems. Police dressed in riot control gear were badly battered, and one was of them was taken to the hospital with a stab wound.
No people in the history of the world have enjoyed more freedom than we have, but there have to be reasonable limits.
Complete freedom amounts to complete anarchy.
