May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month and today, May 22, is Brain Tumor Awareness Day. New brain tumor therapies are critical because in the past 30 years, only three brain cancer treatments have been approved by the FDA. There are more than 120 different types of brain tumors, making effective treatment very complicated. Brain tumors are second leading cause of cancer death among children and young adults.

My daughter is a 15-year survivor of a childhood brain tumor, medulloblastoma. She recently found out she has another tumor, meningioma, probably caused by the radiation treatment for her childhood tumor. Local newscaster Kathy Goertzen has suffered for years from a recurring brain tumor. Brain tumors can’t be prevented because their causes are currently unknown, other than radiation to the brain for treatment of brain cancer.

Please support the search for treatments that work and are less damaging. Visit www.abc2.org, www.braintumor.org or kathigoertzen.com for more information.

In this part of the US, people find it much more imperative to support gay marriage, illegal immigration, and borrow and spend government.
They do not have the time nor the inclination to support projects to lesson pain and suffering from cancer or other antibodies which attack the human body…

  2. Reason_enemy_of_faith says:

The biggest problem/barrier to research for better treatment for brain cancer is we have bible bouncing tea partiers obstructing the work of Congress. Tea Partiers, like Boehner and McConnell (and McKenna for that matter) oppose and disregard science. Bush and his Tea Partier buddies in Congress blocked stem cell research for 8 long years. Tea partiers wish to slash taxes on the richest Americans and impose austerity on the rest of us. Tea Partiers wish to slash spending for NASA, science, higher Ed, and medical research. So, if you want a progressive society with the best science and medical research, vote for Democrats.
