POLITICS: Campaign negativity alive and well

Re: “Presidential race shifts from campaigns to gangland fights” (David Brooks column, 5-3).

Brooks’ observation about the 2012 presidential race is spot on. Rush Limbaugh and Keith Olbermann might as well be running for the highest office in the land.

Campaign heads must have a pretty low opinion of the electorate to think this approach will work. Well, guess what? So far there’s nothing that proves them wrong. Apparently Machiavellian theory still prevails.

  1. BigAl2 says:

Yup – Machiavellian. It’s even worse how much money will be spent.

  2. RLangdon says:

You want to see Campaign Negativity? Just replay the Republican Primary ads and debate footage!!! That’s about as NEGATIVE as campaigning can get.

Oh but wait!!! Now that Newt has finally dropped out they can just turn over the Etch-A-Sketch and start over as good buddies, telling all the same lies about President Obama now that they just finished telling about each other.

American Politics! You gotta love it! Machiavelli ain’t got nothin’ on us!!!

  3. menopaws says:

Just imagine what we could do with all that money they spend to solve some problems….or pay down, just a bit, some of the deficit………Greed rules……sad.

  4. BigAl2 says:

Greed is definitely rampant, and I hear Karl Rove is hard at work behind the scenes. Spooky stuff combined with Citizens vs. United.

  5. Bandito says:

I believe everything that Gingrich and Santorum said about Romney. They should know.

  6. kluwer says:

    Negative republicans??

  7. Frankenchrist says:

Mittens spent 10x as much as Frothy Santorum and he *just* squeaked out a win.

  8. Pacman33 says:

I vote Democrat because they feel my pain and give me free stuff.

  9. kluwer says:

pacman33 only parrots what he hears on hate radio, he thinks it makes him clever.

  10. RLangdon says:

Do you know what the former “community organizer” (current POTUS) was doing while Republicans were engaged in their ultra-negative Circular Firing Squad of a Primary Campaign?

The former community organizer was having his people organize communities all over this country, on a grass roots level, to establish a political organization that will clobber Mitt Romney, or whomever the Republicans finally pick as a sacrificial lamb in the upcoming General Election.

In fact, Obama For America, has been renting many of the same office locations temporarily used by Romney, Santorum, Gingrich and the other GOPs when they moved on to their next Republican hootenanny!

President Obama will win his reelection, and the negative politics will start all over again, won’t it?

    That’s America!!!

  11. RL – organizing for Obama – sauce for the gander.

  12. RLangdon says:

xring, your comment reminds me of this…

Romney on ad: Sauce for the goose, now sauce for the gander

  13. Core principal of Machiavelli – rulers may use all means at their disposal to retain and expand their power.

  14. Pacman33 says:

    Obama’s Least Favorite Machiavelli Quote:

“The first method for estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him.”
    ~ Niccolo Machiavelli

    Obama’s Favorite Machiavelli Quote:

“Men are so simple and so much inclined to obey immediate needs that a deceiver will never lack victims for his deceptions.”
    ~ Niccolo Machiavelli

  15. more sauce for the gander.
