MARINERS: True fan takes the bad with the good

Re: “Team’s disappointing – again” (letter, 4-25).

It would seem obvious to even the most casual observer that the writer is not a true baseball fan. A real aficionado of America’s finest sport takes the good seasons with the bad. Instead of being a “Nattering Nabob of Negativity,” I prefer to be a “Prattling Potentate of Positivity.”

Hope springs eternal. Go Mariners!

  1. Mariner management is only vested in how much $$$$$$ they can accumulate for their mansions. I prefer being a realist! Signing or retaining the big name players curtail $$$$$ for management’s maid/butler services!

  2. bobcat1a says:

You don’t have to subsidize millionaires playing a game to be a baseball fan. There are many great college and minor league teams playing a VERY entertaining game of bball ever summer. Sit in the sun, drink a beer, eat a hotdog and not mortgage the family estate. Beer and a dog shouldn’t cost fifteen bucks (or more).

  3. Frankenchrist says:

AAA is eveyr bit as good as MLB. However, even MLB is cheap compared to NFL. I can’t imagine shelling out the $$$ for a loser Seahawks game.

  4. in this case it’s bad with the worst

  5. bBoy,
While I was in college, I ran across an article in Scientific America comparing fitness levels between professional baseball, basketball, and football players. The test measured strength, endurance, and agility (flexibility).

Football players scored the highest overall – due mainly to very high strength scores.

Basketball players scored well on the endurance levels.

Baseball players scored the lowest overall and the lowest in each of section.

Now for the rest of the story.
One on the scientists had a connection with the Chorus line of the then current Broadway Musical ‘CATS’ so the scientists were able to give the same test to the dancers with the results that the dancers outscored the athletes in every category.

So for all you macho dudes – pick on a dancer at your own risk.
