PTSD: Murray should stick to politics

Sen. Patty Murray should not conduct her own investigation of PTSD diagnoses at Madigan Army Medical Center (TNT, 3-29).

Even the doctors don’t fully understand the problem. Only men such as Staff Sgt. Robert Bales and my father who fought in World War I really know. It took my father more than 60 years before he began to talk about it.

The senator should stick to politicking (which she does very well) and leave medicine to the MDs.

  1. Ridiculous premise.

  2. Ortingmom says:

I would prefer she do neither

  3. LornaDoone says:

Luckily for many vets, Senator Murray has gone above and beyond her job description.

  4. BigSwingingRichard says:

I am absolutely confident that a pre-school education major from Washington State University who has annually been voted the nation’s dumbest senator can adequately diagnose and treat PTSD better than medical doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists.

    You go girl.

  5. Sonofwashington says:

Senator Murry is not trying to diagnose PTSD but there is clear evidence that a problem exists at Madigan regarding PTSD and is most certainly worthy of investigation.

Senator Murray is doing exactly what she should as a US Senator to call attention to these kinds of problems. As a retired soldier, I am grateful that she is sticking up for the interests of servicemen and women who serve the country. This is precisely what our elected officials should be doing.

  6. cadana1961 says:

Senator Murray has always held the interests of our servicemen and servicewomen in high regard … She is an advocate who isn’t trying to diagnose the symptoms, but rather provide the necessary support that the treatment demands … Such advocacy demands hard-asked questions, and thoughtful analysis … Think about this: When the support structure fails or falls short, what good is it to anyone — especially our troops? Where did it fail and why? No doubt Senator Murray is asking this question to the staff at Madigan.

  7. LornaDoone says:

“who has annually been voted the nation’s dumbest senator”

Actually she came in behind a couple of Republicans. Now the kicker. The same list had Maria Cantwell as “looks best in the bathing suit”.

It was a comedy piece in a magazine. Only a conservative gets caught on that one.

  8. BlaineCGarver says:

I don’t vote for Patty, but she does a good job pushing forward programs and bennies for the Military. Likewise, I voted for Dicks when I was in his district.

  9. BCG, good for you. BSD has no clue it seems.

  10. Dave98373 says:

Sen. Murray has been a very strong proponent of the military in this state (especially JBLM), and while I do not care for the rest of her politics the serious problems at Madigan and JBLM need to be looked into. The Army is not taking care of its troops.

  11. LornaDoone says:

Congrats to Dave and Blaine for honest transparent comments about Murray.

Just for the fun of it, I’d welcome both of them to say what they DON’T like about Murray’s politics.

I’ll confess that I voted for Slade Gorton and John Spellman. I plug my nose and vote for Swecker, although he was unopposed last election, but the other side is that I’d leave the space blank if Richard Debolt didn’t have opposition. Garry Alexander is a good man

  12. Dave98373 says:

    LornaLoon-
When you place biased politics above rational issues then you end up with irrational people with irrational issues.

  13. Senator Murray is doing and has done more for the service men and women of this country than ALL the republican Congress puke put together!

  14. “It was a comedy piece in a magazine. Only a conservative gets caught on that one.”

    E V E R Y single time!

  15. Frankenchrist says:

As a veteran of two wars, let me congratulate Senator Murray for looking out for the welfare of our servicemen. She has done more for us than any draft-dodging Republican (ie, Bush, Cheney, Gingrich, Romney, etc.)

    Bravo Senator Murray!

  16. yabetchya says:

    Patty, would like to be.

  17. NotPoliticallyCorrect says:

So are you saying, after all this time she has done NO wrong? I do have to say, read her newsletters all Murray and her staff can do, is play a blame game. You should check out some policies she claimed were “Bad Policies” and should never have been made. Yet, years earlier she had voted is support of them. You never heard he speak and take responsibility for them, it was always somebody else’s fault.

Not saying others do NOT do that either, but Murray is the topic here. Do you think she would take her family to a VA hospital or Madigan for healthcare? I seriously dobut it.

  18. Dave98373 says:

NotPC- Not everyone shares your passion or zeal regarding politics. Just because a member of Congress is of a political party of which you dislike does not mean they are less of a person or is not capable of addressing serious issues that affect all Americans.

  19. harleyrider1 says:

I am not a Senator Murray fan; however she found a good political ride to hitch her wagon to for elections, that of “veterans”. Not too many politicians wanted to do that in 1969.

So, whether I like her or not, I choose to look on the Veterans’ side of her helping out. The Vets benefit anytime someone with power in the Senate makes inquiries on their behalf. That’s how Walter Reed’s moldy, death trap of a hospital got closed. The President visiting a few times on his own, went beyond where they wanted him to and discovered what years of no maintenance funding had caused.

Patty can push all she wants for the guys and gals in uniform. She’s not saying she has an answer or to tell them what to do. (Remember I do not like this woman) She is bringing a powerful focus on the problem and asking what can we do better to help our kids who serve in combat.

I say win-win for her and us. Thanks Senator.

  20. flamotte says:

Dear Ora, ever read the constitution? The military is under the control of our elected civilian authorities, by constitutional law. Our founders knew that asking the military to regulation and supervise itself is like asking foxes to guard the hen house.

  21. She should work on passing a budget in the Senate, something they haven’t done in almost three years.

  22. LornaDoone says:

lenz – when you post why a budget hasn’t been passed, we can have a dialog about it. Until then you are part of the problem.

NPC – wonderful comment. Now how about some substance? You “baselessed assertioned” yourself around the topic.

“Murray has been involved in some bad policies, but we’re not going to tell you what they are”

  23. I agree with harleyrider, the more lucid demokrats know that by showing a little respect for the military can get them some miliage in getting re elected. Even Rachel Maddow on MSNBC has found a way to make the military her central theme. Anytime I see a liberal showing a little compassion and/or respect for the military, I get very suspicious.

  24. Senator Murray has been a leader in taking care of veterans. Elect a Republican and watch him or her balance the budget on the back of veterans. The Republican Party already has started down that road. The Republican Party in Congress has already voted to block the Department of Veterans’ Affairs from creating more presumptive illness from service in the military. The Republicans voted to force veterans to ‘prove’ their condition is service connected- individually and not collectively. The Republicans know a veteran does not have the resources to prove his or her case. Yes, it is easy to assess a blow off limb. But, the effects of Agent Orange, depleted Uranium munitions, toxic fires in the Gulf War, nucleus testing in Nevada, the list goes on.

And, yes, please check the site indicating the members of Congress would served in any war, any branch of service. The percentages are truly reflective of having a ‘mercenary military.’ The 1% who make the sacrifices are giving the other 99% a free ride. The other 99% do not even want to pay the cost of keeping their lifestyle free of foreign interference.

As long a Murray stands up for veterans, she has my vote.

Did you just realize not everybody does not share the same ideas and passions regarding politics? If you read all the way through my post earlier, you will notice I did not post anything about a specific party.

Why don’t you research Murray’s activities/voting records over the years. You will see how she tries to cover it up, have you ever heard her admit to something bad? You can see that also with many other members of congress, why do you think they have an approximate 11% approval rating. Then you expect us to believe her word is golden, I sure don’t.

  26. Lorna
You would have to address the question about why a budget has not passed the Senate to Sen. Murray. Remember, the failure of the Senate to pass a budget pre-dates Republican control of the House.

  27. SandyQue says:

Voting records are available to the public. Anyone saying a Senator tries to hide a vote is just making something up. Admitting to something “bad” is a matter of opinion. I find a vote against health care reform to be “bad”. Does that make all the Republicans “bad”?

  28. Anytime I see a liberal showing a little compassion and/or respect for the military, I get very suspicious.

Because you are more used to the “conservative” chickenhawks who are all for sending them into harm’s way and then not funding Veterans…. Don’t give even lipservice to thinking the military is anything more than cannon fodder – that is much more “honest” ain’t it frosty?

  29. Dave98373 says:

Exactly my point. Your drivel is consisent with the rest of America. There is plenty of fault with reps. on both sides of the aisle. We all are not a party of any one specific party (I am partial to some issues on the left and some issues on the right…but I am not “owned” by any party). We share many commonalities of BOTH parties. Once you understand that, you can appreciate efforts made by elected officials who stick their neck out on issues not consistent with party lines. Such as Senator Murray.

  30. NotPoliticallyCorrect says:

    Dave,

So do you think we should be happy that congress has an 11% approval rating? Senator Murray is not going to stick her neck out. She knows all too well it would probably get broke, along with so many others.

If they were not in this just for themselves. This country would not be so divided, almost economic ruin, and gimme gimme(I am enititled to this or that). Which believe it or not she has contributed too also, even though she will denie it like anybody else.

Even when Murray and Rossi were running for that position. I have to say if that is all the better Washington State can come up, we are in trouble.

Have you read her newsletters? What a joke!!!! Blame game after Blame Game. Lastly, I have very little to appreciate about murray.

  31. monmornQB says:

I can’t stand Democrates anymore than I can a Republican politician but atleast Murray actually votes to help our veterans after they get home from combat. She’s done a lot more than those other traitor politicians that like to use support our troops rhetoric to get elected and secure funds for their campaign donors only to turn their backs on our soldiers after returning.
PTSD is real and just because it doesn’t make war look like a sexy game for politicians doesn’t mean that our fellow citizens should turn their backs on them either. Put your partisan blinders away and support our veterans no matter what party’s pliticians are doing it.
SUPPORTING OUR VETERANS IS NON PARTISAN.

  32. “Democrates”

Could someone explain why this misspelling is in vogue?

I mean sure, the Democrats aren’t really democratic but then, do you really think the GOPers are really republican?

  33. MarksonofDarwin says:

    bB,

I’ve made that error many times, but noticed it and corrected.
I’ve also seen many posters who are actually praising Democrats that do the same thing.
Not sure why fingers want to find the “e” after the “t” but it happens!

Btw…..A grand hello to you! I don’t much post here anymore, and maybe make a cursory read of the comments now and then. Sure miss our exchanges….those were the days, eh? Haha!

  34. I miss our discussions. All too often these days the devolution into name-calling and accusations of multiple screen names squeeze out any room for respectful exchange of differing views.

  35. the3rdpigshouse says:

I would really like this socialist democrat dullard to just fade away however, Washington still has an “ignorant electorate” so the future is not encouraging!

  36. beerboy, it took more than just republicans to “sending them into harms way”. They couldn’t fight these wars without a congressional approval for the funding to do so.

  37. BlaineCGarver says:

I’ll play, LD….She is not a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, and is a rubberstamp for any ‘Crat POTUS….

  38. BlaineCGarver says:

Besides, Washington is a perfect place to garner voter base by being very pro military. I really don’t think it’s because she cares.
