SHOOTING: Wait for the facts to come out

It is clear that Eugene Robinson (column, 3-27) doesn’t like Stand your Ground laws. It is also clear that he has jumped on the vigilante committee to hang George Zimmerman before all that facts are out.

It is sad in this world of instant gratification that we can’t wait for the truth to come out.

Good letter, but you could have also included many other notables such as; Rev Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Texas Rep Sheila Jackson Lee, Barrack Obama, The New Black Panthers, most of the liberal media, Tacoma Councilman Campbell….and the list goes on.

The rule to be learned from this tragedy: Do not attack a man with a gun unless you intend to get shot. Lets call it the “Trayvon Rule.”

  2. Funny Mr. Richard that you should mention “jumping on the vigilante committee” because isn’t that exactly what Zimmerman, (who has assaulted a police officer, and has domestic violence issues/ restraining order) did when he murdered Trayvon? And BSR? So you are saying that anyone with a gun is above the law (which he disregarded the 911 dispatcher knowing that the police were on their way) and can chase down anyone who is unarmed and shoot them? Love the society you are wanting to live in, I can be out for a peaceful walk and because someone doesn’t like the way I look and they have a gun, they can just chase me, I can’t defend myself but because they have the gun, they can shoot me? Sounds like a bunch of gun wranglers looking for trouble, that doesn’t sound like responsible gun ownership.

There is no evidence that Trayvon attacked Zimmerman. Didn’t the letter ask for people to stop “instant gratification” and “vigilante” behavior?

  4. Interesting point – Federal Firearms Laws state:
It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person is subject to a court order that restrains such person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner of such person or child of such intimate partner or person, or engaging in other conduct that would place an intimate partner in reasonable fear of bodily injury to the partner or child.

Also, except for the New Black Panthers, I know of noone on the left who is calling for anything but a proper unbiased investigation to determing what happened and if charges should be brought.

  5. old_benjamin says:

One is reminded of the rape charges against the Lacrosse players at Duke University in 2006. The usual suspects found them guilty, but the charges were dropped and the prosecutor was canned. The Sharptons, Jacksons, et al never learn, or never miss an opportunity for self agrandizement.

sandique said, “There is no evidence that Trayvon attacked Zimmerman.”

If he did attack Mr. Zimmerman, he certainly didn’t inflict any noticeable damage…

  7. What was that number again? 40+ people killed in Chicago over the St Patricks day weekend? Maybe they should have a Stand Your ground law as well.

  8. alinasue, how much damage is permissable until you defend yourself?

  9. frosty – how long can you stalk someone before they defend themselves with their fists?

Hmmm…if only Martin had had a gun, then he could have cited Stand Your Ground as his reason for blowing that paranoid psychotic away who was stalking him.
