TNT: Why reveal details about soldier’s home?

The News Tribune published photos (3-17)  and the city location of the home of the soldier accused of murdering 16 Afghan civilians.

Did the editorial staff stop, even for a moment, to consider what that might mean? The fact that Staff Sgt. Robert Bales lived in a particular home in the local community was not newsworthy. People who didn’t care are now well aware of it, and that group includes a fringe element that has already made up their mind that Bales, his family and the Army must be held accountable for the Afghan killings.

A vacant home is an easy target for venting of anger. Even if Bales is guilty of a horrendous crime his family bears no responsibility whatsoever and faces an uncertain future. In my estimation you added to their troubles.

Absolutely. Would the TNT print such garbage and play the devil’s advocate if they were monetarily responsible for any damage to their home caused by printing such information? Probably not. So disappointing.

  2. Quite irresponsible IMO
