JBLM: Unrelated events don’t make a troubled post

Re: “Why does it seem it’s always JBLM?” (TNT, 3-18).

I think it’s unfair to label Joint Base Lewis-McChord as troubled because of a few unrelated incidents. I could make the same argument about the Puget Sound: three children shot in the last month, a state trooper killed, the Powell murder-suicide, the four murdered Lakewood officers.

Lately I’ve seen our area in the national media (even excluding JBLM) quite frequently. It seems that Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ed Troyer is a regular on the national news.

I’ve been stationed near Boston and in Brooklyn, N.Y., and can’t recall as much national coverage in the areas I lived as I do now. Someone could make an argument that all the rain is the source of these problems. Let’s not generalize or try to lump everything together.

  1. Our out-of-state relatives want to know what darkness has befallen Western Washington that we have had so many horrors occur up here from Ted Bundy and The Green River Killer to the things you’ve mentioned here, and don’t forget the DC Sniper. Does sort of make one wonder?
