SENIORS: How about a fee break for runs and walks?

Organizations that sponsor runs and walks should make some consideration for seniors who need the exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle. How about a minimum entrance fee and a signed waiver that would eliminate sponsors’ liability responsibility?

One of the benefits of this would be the opportunity to help the seniors and the sponsor’s cause, most of which are health-related. The interaction of seniors and the others would be socially beneficial to all concerned. Hopefully if one group starts this program, others will follow.

I am 80 now but still do walks and ride an adult trike. I did the Sound to Narrows in less than two hours at 71, and that same year I walked to Gig Harbor from DuPont (approximately 22.5 miles) in five hours and 40 minutes.

You go, Norbert! I am 61 and started running a little over two years ago. Did my first Sound to Narrows last year and did the Narrows Half Marathon too. Keep on moving! You are an inspiration to us youngsters!

You don’t have to enter a running or walking event to get exercise. You can just go run or walk.

Old people don’t have kids to feed so they should be paying higher entry fees so us younger folks can get a break on the price.

  3. i agree with itwasnt — the route is free to navigate on a daily basis. if you want to participate in an organized function, you may be required to contribute to the cause…

  4. Haa! Now heres an idea about these “events” (which by the way usually plug up public streets so the rest of us cant use them!)….

How about Mr Bucholz just walk or ride the route anyway and keep the fee in your pocket! What they gonna do, kick you off a PUBLIC STREET? The only thing you’d miss out on is the silly little number thing they staple to your shirt, or a bottle of water someone hands out.

Frankly I get a bit fed-up with the inconvenience of these little jocko groups imposing on the rest of us so they can hold their silly events. You want to run around, go run in the woods.

  5. ….and “jellee” just said it…..”the route is free to navigate on a daily basis”…….

Oh, disclaimer time….UNLESS some “event” has determined that the public cant use that route while THEY are playing on it!
