The Wollochet construction project in Gig Harbor, which has had a lot of people steaming in this community for the last two years, will continue its merry traffic jams next month.
Since my letter to this paper in June 2010 questioning the sanity of adding several lanes to a single-lane road for one mile in order to “improve traffic flow” at an expense exceeding $6 million, I contacted a number of state and local officials to look into this affair.
I now report that the state Attorney General’s office, the Pierce County prosecutor, the state Department of Transportation, the Pierce County Council and others showed no interest whatsoever in looking into this potential scam.
The only “improvement” that seems likely from the Wollochet construction is in the bank accounts of those involved in the project. We will all sit quietly in the traffic jam at 40th Street when the construction resumes next month for another half year, and we will all pay for this waste of tax dollars. And since no one seems to care, we sit tight until the next construction flimflam follows this one. Who is to stop it?
