UPLACE: Tax rate has property owners feeling the pinch

The assessed value of my home has fallen by almost 25 percent since 2008, yet my property taxes this year are their highest dollar amount in four years.

What gives?

Well, University Place voters just can’t bring themselves to say no to any request for new tax levies. It doesn’t seem to matter how unnecessary or unreasonable the matter might be.

So here we are.

Imagine the pain we’ll all feel in a few years from the double whammy when our home values begin to climb again with our levy rate at record highs.

Ouch!
