The Westboro Baptist Church from Topeka, Kan., plans on disrupting the funeral for two young boys who died at the hands of their father (TNT, 2-9). This church believes that it was God’s will that they died because our state legalized gay marriage.

These actions from this church cannot be tolerated. I hope to see many of our veterans there to counterprotest this group that also targets funerals of our fallen soldiers. It’s about time we stand up for what is right and put a stop to these radical anti-civil rights groups.

  1. Spiderweb says:

I just hope that Westboro garbage doesn’t show.

Occupy is organizing a counter protest. I will be there Sunday to join in. I hope to see a HUGE crowd

  2. The press at sports events made the decision to not show the knuckleheads who streak on the field – thus denying them any coverage. Why can’t the press do the same for Westboro Baptists?

  3. Spiderweb says:

Perhaps because streaking is entirely a silly attention getting act, while promoting death for an entire group of people is both hateful AND dangerous.

The Westboro group are a bunch of idiotic lunatics, they’d probably show up regardless of press attention. They shouldn’t be allowed to spread their hate at this service.

  4. Fibonacci says:

The best way to counteract idiots like this is “shunning”. Give them no acknowlegement at all–now, if thens media would do the same.

  5. ManuelMartini says:

Thank God that I don’t have a god

  6. bobcat1a says:

To paraphrase Jefferson, the quickest way to silence evil is to allow it to speak its hateful message where everyone can be disgusted. Exposing the evil to the light of day will do more to end it than any other means.

  7. bobcat – I disagree. Phelp’s clan are publicity whores. Their primary motivation is exposure. By continuing to give them attention we are giving them exactly what they want – thus ensuring continued bad behavior.

  8. the facts are that westborough baptist us allowed to do as it pleases and say as they please. our constitution guarantees their right to say what they wish (hopefully at a safe distance), and our troops fight to ensure their rights.

that being said; i could envision a wall of silent-supporters of the powell family and their rights as mourners. we could have a human barrier of peaceful and silent intervention.

suppose that is probably just what the occupy folks are planning; hopefully it stays quite and respectful in the face of the westborough maniacs and their lunacy.

  9. How can you people not respect their deep and sencere conviction? It’s their faith and constitutionally protected religious freedom (the First AmEndment!!1! ), so it must be good, respected and not assaulted! You are porse… prese… persecuting them!
