TACOMA: Spending is out of control

Letter by Ray Bell, Tacoma on Dec. 19, 2011 at 12:48 pm with 6 Comments »

I applaud the suggestion to eliminate Tacoma’s city manager position (Letter, 12-19). Anything possible must be done to save police and firefighter jobs.

Was this really a good year to spend however many thousands of taxpayer dollars on the Kandle Park pool and playground project? Could we have done without the new upscale signs at Jefferson Park? Who would even think about paying consultants to study the Tacoma Dome to lure an NBA or NHL team in this economy except our spendthrift city?

There were some great ideas in Kathleen Merryman’s column on Dec.19. Put all of this together and we might dig out of the budget hole and even fix a pothlole or two.

2 cents on a bottle of water would be a lot more efficient and effective.
