ROADS: 167 extension makes no sense

So state Route 167 needs to be extended to connect agrarian Eastern Washington to the warehouses of Sumner, Auburn and Kent (TNT, 12-3)? Has anyone looked at a map?

To get from Eastern Washington to Sumner, Auburn or Kent, you need to take Interstate 90 and then state Route 18. If you’re going to Sumner, you’d get off at Auburn and then go south.

The extension of 167 along the River Road area would save a few – very few – miles for people going from Sumner and Puyallup to the Port of Tacoma. But $2 billion worth of save? Give me a break.

Going West on Rt18 one would turn South on Rt167 and trucks would avoid the long haul uphill on Rt18. That avoids the constipation at Rt18 and Enchanted Pkwy where I-5 exits and again at Hwy99. The extension would do best as a toll road for truck traffic only and free up the surface streets. Traffic on 70th St overpass in Fife is a horrendous mess. The City of Fife was eager to develop warehouse property on farmland, collected property taxes and did absolutely nothing to avoid congestion on a two lane road. At least Kent provided adequate four lane carrying capacity that avoids the Fife traffic mess.
