MILITARY: Service people will join jobless ranks

I am an Air Force retiree who committed 22 years to proudly serving our country.

Recently I heard that President Obama is removing troops from Iraq. This is good and should have been done a long time ago. One story that isn’t being told is how a lot of these soldiers, sailors and airmen are being “fired” once they return.

Granted, there are a lot of people who would like to get out of the military, but there are a lot who would really like to stay in and aren’t given an option.

I understand our unemployment rate has dropped to under 9 percent. Well, starting next year, I’m sure this rate will increase with these military personnel “hitting the streets” with no employment.

Let’s help these troops and tell Congress to stop hurting our economy.

By the way, I truly hope our military recruiters are no longer promising people a retirement.
