HOMELESS: Be mindful of others’ burdens

Have you ever met a seventh grader who was homeless? I never thought I would, but it happened to me about two weeks ago. They sit in a class I volunteer with, and they do their work quietly like all the other students, but they are fighting more battles than just a math test. They face finding a place to sleep, hunger, and more burdens than most of us face in our lives.

As the holidays come along I would like to remind everyone of their blessings and fortune, but also to be mindful of what others are facing. If an opportunity to help comes along, do it.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t ever want to meet another homeless seventh grader.

Yes I have Hope… many times. Thanks for your letter.

  2. The fact that we have homeles in America is beyond sad, it is a tragedy. Although I wish we could take care of the whole world it just is not doable so we should start our charity at home, here in America. Maybe if we weren’t pouring trillions into other countries, most of whom hate the USA, maybe we could cloth, feed and house our legal citizens.

  3. It is my personal belief that when God places someone in need in your line of vision, it is an invitation for you to help. Many folks prefer to walk around with blinders (or blindFOLds and earplugs); many want the government to be responsible for these folks so we don’t have to think about them or invest in them ourselves. It’s a sad thing.

While I do believe that the government should include assistance to the desperate, I believe the real responsibility rests with folks like you Hope…and me.

I wonder if God has something to do with those that are protesting Wall Street. Maybe it’s an invitation to help. There are many there who are undoubtedly homeless.

    “….who are undoubtedly homeless.”

    Undoubtedly? But are they really?
