VETERANS DAY: Take a minute and remember those who served

Today, we had the honor to spend several hours visiting friends and family
at the Tahoma National Cemetery.

As we walked throughout the grounds, we came to a stop every 30 minutes and placed our hands over our hearts. In the background we could hear the sound of gunshots followed by Taps honoring another veteran (there was 21 interments today).

One marker was that of Civil War veteran 2nd Lt. Jesse T. Barrick and his wife
Sarah. Jesse’s marker had special marking as he was a Medal of Honor recipient.
Sarah was U.S. Army nurse, also in the Civil War.

After clearing the tears we proceed to head home and passed Kentwood High School.
Once again we had to reach for the Kleenex. On each section of the fence surrounding the entire campus was an American flag. The section of fencing at the main entrance spelled out in red, white and blue plastic cups, “We love our vets.” We were so impressed I went in and thanked the staff.

So, as you go about the next few days, stop for a minute to remember those like Lt. Barrick and his wife Sarah for serving this great nation, especially those who paid the ultimate price.
