OIL: Canadian lecture doesn’t make sense

Re: “America has little to show for its massive energy use” (TNT, 11-6).

A Canadian from the University of Manitoba lecturing us on too much oil use? Doesn’t United States gets most of its oil from Canada? Is it the same Manitoba that sends us 22,000 barrels per day ? This is the same University of Manitoba that boasts that you can get your petrochemical degree in just 42 months?

The province of Manitoba is fifth in production of oil to U.S. markets . The oil sands market has been exploding in recent years, with farmers turning over there farms to oil sands exploration. Yet Smil chides us for using too much of his country’s expor?

That simply makes no sense. That would be like a drug dealer complaining about too many addicts. Let he who is without sin cast the first tar ball.
