Several weeks ago I sent a letter to Sen. Patty Murray concerning the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction.
In my letter, I included a list of several government programs, that in my opinion, are a massive waste of our tax dollars. Many of these programs cost millions and in some cases billions of dollars. The total cost of all programs is over $1.3 trillion. I cannot take credit for this list of programs. That was done by someone who did a lot of study and investigation in compiling and publishing the list and cost of each program.
Today, I received the senator’s reply in which there was no mention of the content of my letter. It contained her position on the committe, and that their task would require some “tough choices.”
She indicated she is working closely with her House and Senate colleagues to accomplish their task. Unless I’m wrong, it was these groups that put us in this financial mess. I’m not an economist, but I believe I can see wasted money when reading of some of the programs funded with our tax dollars.
I believe the Joint Select Committee would do well to give consideration to what the tax payers think. Perhaps each committee member should seek and give consideration to input from the citizens. They may be surprised by the replies of those whose money they are spending.
