TACOMA: Ibsen offers real solutions

Re: “Smitherman is better council choice” (letter, 10-20).

I voted for Anders Ibsen because he’s the only candidate who’s serious about fixing our streets, and the only candidate with the honesty to tell us how exactly he’ll do it.

The letter writer seems oblivious to the infrastructural investments our city needs. Driving over the potholes in my neighborhood has cost me hundreds in vehicle repairs.

Let’s get real: Karen Smitherman and Anders Ibsen are both Democrats. According to The News Tribune (Our View, 10-10), “Both are smart, active in local Democratic politics, and likely to vote very similarly on issues coming before the council.”

The difference is, Ibsen isn’t afraid to give you a straight answer. Career politicians will say anything to get your vote, whether they actually believe it or not. Ibsen cares more about our neighborhood than his political career. That’s why I’m proud to support him.

  1. tree_guy says:

Exactly how is he going to “fix our streets?”

  2. More women in politics means better results. Simple as that. Vote for Karen for better results.

  3. I should have qualified that by saying more Democratic women particularly in light of the following:
Two days after the New Hampshire-based staff for Michele Bachmann’s presidential campaign resigned en masse, the ex-aides released a statement affirming their departure and calling Bachmann’s national campaign “rude, unprofessional, dishonest, and at times cruel.”

“The manner in which some in the national team conducted themselves towards Team-NH was rude, unprofessional, dishonest, and at times cruel,” the letter reads. “But more concerning was how abrasive, discourteous, and dismissive some within the national team were towards many New Hampshire citizens.”
Ms. Bachmann’s persona is just the tip of the republican ideological iceberg. She IS her national team after all.

  4. tree_guy says:

Publico, this is what the head of the Democratic Party, President Obama, said about Republicans:

“If they bring a knife, we bring a gun”

Is this just the rude, unprofessional, and cruel tip of the democratic ideolgical iceberg?

  5. tree_guy is confused. The following is what he has to offer, which out of context sounds pretty bad. In context it is a joke. Poor tree_guy let HIS ideology get in the way of rational thought.
“Publico, this is what the head of the Democratic Party, President Obama, said about Republicans:

“If they bring a knife, we bring a gun”

Is this just the rude, unprofessional, and cruel tip of the democratic ideolgical iceberg”?
Some people will go to any length to make a point that makes them feel good even though in retrospect it makes them look stupid.

  6. tree_guy says:

Vitrolic rhetoric about shooting people is a joke as far as pulico is concerned. We’re all laughing with you publico for sure.

  7. Tree_guy says: “Vitrolic rhetoric about shooting people is a joke as far as pulico is concerned. We’re all laughing with you publico for sure.”

My friend, you are still out of context and disparaging me will have no effect anywhere. And where does shooting people come into this? The metaphore was “bring a gun” and nowhere was its use beyond showing implied.
I await your studied response. Not!

  8. tree_guy says:

Puloico, you called out Michelle Bachman for being rude and unprofessional. I merely pointed out that our own President, on occasion, could be similarly rude and unprofessional.

Of course, why you introduced this topic in a discussion of Anders Ibsens campaign is beyond me. Perhaps creating thread drift is the only thing you’re really good at.

  9. Don’t retreat – Re-load.

  10. tree_guy says:

Kate, when are you planning to tell the rest of the voters in District 1 EXACTLY how Ibsen intends to “fix our streets?” I haven’t seen any plan. If you are aware of one would you provide the details? I hope this isn’t just something you made up.

  11. PumainTacoma says:

Voting NO to Smitherman, no more good o’l boys.

  12. tree_guy says:

    ‘Earth to Kate Logan’

When are you going to tell us exactly how Ibsen is going to fix our streets? I’ve been asking for several days.

Was your reason for sending a letter to the editor to inform people or to trick people?
