TACOMA: Smitherman the better choice for District 1

To the thousands of District 1 voters I met while doorbelling, running for office was one of the best experiences of my life. Meeting so many great Tacomans was worth the hard work and sacrifice. My family and I thank you for the kindness we received on the campaign trail and at your front door.

To my supporters, I am giving my endorsement to Karen Smitherman for Tacoma City Council Position 1 as the better choice and our best chance to get Tacoma back to work and back in business after decades of economic stagnation.

My biggest disagreement with her opponent, Anders Ibsen, is on middle-class tax increases. His enthusiastic advocacy of long-term, regressive hikes on car tab fees and property taxes concerns me when taxes are already up due to excessive city bonding.

We in District 1 deserve a council member with real-world experience who understands these critical decisions can threaten the progression of our great city and the expansion of a strong middle-class society.

I put my support behind Smitherman as a pragmatic voice in an era when divisive politics and ambitions continue to harm our great nation.
