TACOMA: Say no to gateway initiative

Initiative 1 in Tacoma calls for marijuana to be placed on the lowest priority list for law enforcement. Whereas many see passing this initiative as good act, I see it differently.

Many consider marijuana a gateway drug; likewise I consider this a gateway initiative. If we allow this to pass, I am almost certain there will be attempts to completely decriminalize the use of marijuana.

Passing this initiative will only open doors for other interest groups to get other illegal substances and crimes placed “lower” on law enforcements priority list. People need to realize that it isn’t just going to be dropped on the priority list, it will be dropped altogether. This opens the door for marijuana users to peddle their wares throughout Tacoma.

I understand the uses for it medically, but this initiative doesn’t just cover that one aspect, it deals with its overall use.

  1. SwordofPerseus says:

    Jarod,

I don’t like the nanny state telling me what I can and cannot do in the privacy of my home or the homes of my friends. As long as consenting adults are involved, frankly I believe it is none of your business what I do. Nor is it the business of the ever growing police state that is the Land of Homeland Security and diminished freedoms we have been saddled with thanks to the war criminals that formerly occupied the White House. Furthermore I don’t believe that you are in touch with the realities regarding Marijuana use and who is using it. It is a plant that grows all over the world, like apple trees or wheat. Anything that is abused or overused is bad, including useless and unproductive laws. The reasons for marijuana laws are purely political and have no basis in science or morality. Get over it, myself and my friends will nullify your “NO” vote.
