ABORTION: Another attempt to undermine women’s access to health care

Reps. Norm Dicks and Adam Smith stood up for women’s health and reproductive rights by voting against H.R. 358.

H.R. 358 is another attempt by House Republicans to revive the failed Stupak amendment. It eliminates the existing protections women already have when seeking care in emergency circumstances.  Basically, it would allow a hospital to deny life-saving abortion care to a woman, even if a doctor deems that care necessary.

The claim is this that H.R. 358 is protecting medical workers, but the truth is that it undermines women’s access to health care and endangers their lives. It would also take comprehensive health care coverage away from women and create loopholes that states and insurance companies could exploit to undermine the new requirement that insurance companies provide birth control with no co-pays.

I am tired of House Republican leaders pushing for a vote on legislation that restricts access to health care. We are in a recession! Congress needs to focus on fixing the economy and stop wasting time on these out-of-the-mainstream bills.

  1. Congratulations, Ms. Rankin, for telling the truth without resorting to some nebulous biblical source or influence.

  2. pud – oops, I mean pub. There is nothing cloudy, misty or hazy about belief in The One True GOD.
On HR358 I just received my voter’s pamphet and have not read it yet so am undecided of how I will vote on this. However as Liz R. stated:

loopholes that states and insurance companies could exploit to undermine the new requirement that insurance companies provide birth control with no co-pays.

  3. oops again, must be tired, pressed the wrong key. Anyway in Liz R’s letter she wrote:
loopholes that states and insurance companies could exploit to undermine the new requirement that insurance companies provide birth control with no co-pays.
If the statement above is truly a fact I would vote NO as prevention is way cheaper than “after the fact” and at the price one pays for insurance woman should be able to get protection either free or at a very low cost. Although pro-life to the end I believe strongly in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies.

  4. Call and mail our reps if you feel strongly about this Darlin. Your error was an easy one to make in a hurried moment. For goodness’ sake, don’t allow K’s comments to wound you.

  5. LarryFine says:

HR358 is just reaffirming what Obama promised… that no federal funds could be used for abortion.

  6. LarryFine says:

… then again, Mr. Obama has an affinity to lie…uh, er, not be truthful.

  7. Republicans “reaffirm”…while the President tries to get a jobs program going.

I wonder if it’s more important to pass an existent law, or to get people back to work…..

  8. pud – oops, I mean pub

Yeah…intentional typos like this eluding to male anatomy are protected by Freedom of Speech

  9. pud – oops, I mean pub.

And on another thread Darlin proclaimed his/her admiration for people with good manners. I guess, when you are one of the drones in the hive, “good manners” is only extended to the rest of the members of the hive – not the “gentiles” as the Mormons call us.

  10. Sozo, thank you,I appreciate your advise, I have hand written, emailed and called our reps before and would not hesitate to do it again. I think Karnos has a great problem and is a total jerk. He seems to have nothing better to do than to sit at his computer all day long posting dribble, putting down others posts, using big words (so he can look smart lol. I really do appreciate your posts and know you are one of the smartest and informed people on this thread.
Karnos and Beerboy – get a life loosers.

  11. get a life loosers.

    ROTFLMAO

Not sure what a “looser” is……pretty sure that anyone who petulantly scribes “get a life loosers” is a whiner not a winner.

  12. I’ve known a few loosers in my day.
