TACOMA: TNT made the right choice in Smitherman

The News Tribune editorial board made the right decision when it endorsed Karen Smitherman for Tacoma City Council Position 1 (editorial, 10-10).

Civically involved educators like Smitherman, who have broad and varied experiences in both in their classrooms and within their communities, are often untapped resources as they close out their teaching and administrative careers. For Smitherman, a position on the City Council is a very logical next step.

If Smitherman wins the position, as she should, her young  opponent, Anders Ibsen, can look forward to eager future support from the same voters. He has made a very strong and positive impression on the District 1 voters he has doorbelled. If he loses this time, he should not be discouraged from future races. I believe he has a future as an elected official.

Voting Ibsen…. not the status quo or political good o’l boys.

  2. BigSwingingRichard says:

I might argue there was not a good choice between the two of them, given their joint liberal bent.

Nice back handed swipe telling the guy he needs to grow up some and get more experience when his matches hers equally.
Tacoma needs a business person and Ibsen is it , not someone obsessed with moving port jobs to San Diego , so her friends can have a better view.

Typical Tacoma Democrat politics. Assume there is no tit for tat with the union endorsements.
