TACOMA: Ibsen more deserving of endorsement

The surprisingly superficial endorsement (editorial, 10-10) by The News Tribune in the race for Tacoma City Council District 1 did a disservice to both candidates and their campaigns.

I know both campaigns and know them both to be effective and dedicated. I am 70 years old and have lots of life experience (the main criterion for political office apparently, according to the endorsement) and my life experience tells me to look at the record.

Anders Ibsen ran a successful campaign for Pierce County Conservation District supervisor. He co-founded four new neighborhood block watch groups in our community. He worked collaboratively with the city, the school district, the North End Neighborhood Council and parents to get matching funds for a flashing crosswalk at Mason Middle School. He served on the board of the Tacoma Opera. The list is long.

Check the complete list and see the clarity of his goals for our city at www.andersibsen.com.

The Tribune missed the mark on all its endorsements. Ibsen is better than Smitherman and the good o’l boy democrat politics of this county.

  2. fbergford says:

He needs to pad his resume more in the private sector in order to get my vote.

  3. BigSwingingRichard says:

He is the greater liberal of two liberals, which is disappointing.

Seniority and private sector experience are neither particularly good reasons to vote for any candidate. Ms. Smitherman is a mature, intelligent woman and has lived in Tacoma many years and probably would be a good council member. My preference, however, is Anders Ibsen because he has energy, listens well and digests new ideas, and has a burning desire to help make Tacoma the best it can be.

Voting for Ibsen and no to the status quo and the good o’l boy network!!!
