GOP: Debate crowd dishonored soldier

I decided to entertain myself by watching the latest Republican debate. I find it interesting that this party typically tags themselves as the most patriotic. One of the questions for the presidential hopefuls was asked via video by a gay soldier in Iraq. His question was whether they planned to reinstate the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy if they became president. The audience booed.

The boos were chilling in itself, but what was most dishonoring was that none of these potential commanders in chief felt it necessary to first thank the soldier for his service and admonish the audience for their disrespectful behavior. As a veteran of this country, I am embarrassed and insulted by the way this brave soldier was treated. No thanks, GOP.

  1. gotta love the overt homophobia of the teafolks…..

  2. and you gotta love sweeping generalizations coming from the fellow who continually admonishes those who make sweeping generalizations.

  3. It’s not a generalization to say that Not one of the Republican candidates said anything to denounce the boos or to thank the Marine for his service.

Another point I think those that felt it so easy to boo a brave Marine on video would certainly not have done so to his face judging by the size of the Marine.

  4. sozo – OK….I will amend that statement so as to not make sweeping generalizations….

Gotta love the homophobia of Republican debate audience members.

  5. dallasow says:

I also watched the tea party spectacle, cleverly disguised as a debate, and was extremely disappointed in the way the audience reacted to the soldier’s question. If you were looking at the circus, you were witnessing things to come if someone on that stage is elected to run this country. Not a single candidate on that stage came to the defense of that soldier. Despicable.

  6. Unrepresented says:

No difference between the tea partiers and Fred Phelps and his band of idiots. Not one candidate had the integrity to at least thank that soldier for his service. Cowards intent on being elected at any cost regardless of the affect on this great country.

  7. you gotta love the admonition of someone making a sweeping generalization by someone that makes sweeping generalizations.
