TOLLS: Government drowning in incompetence

Re: “Toll-switch penalties waived “ (TNT, 9-4) and “Tacoma finally accepts man’s offer to return drain grates” (TNT, 9-4).

These are prime examples of state and local government employee incompetency we are supporting, and our elected and appointed officials appear unable to correct helping to continue the inability to get finances under control.

The toll situation is inexcusable when there are established vendors who have been through similar situations and worked out the problems. I doubt they were ever considered during the vetting process. For example, Easy Pass has been highly successful on the East Coast.

The drain grate debacle shows a lack of common sense and poor management, which unfortunately runs rampant on many levels.

I commend The News Tribune for reporting these issues and hope that pressure will be exerted to make the changes necessary to get these wastes of our money under control – even to the extent of cleaning house in some of the agencies involved.

  1. I may be wrong- but isn’t it a company from Texas that was contracted by the state to run the tolling system? And that’s when the problems began? Seems to me that we were doing better when it was being handled by the state.
