SR 16: Why not add a flashing red light?

The Sprague Avenue exit ramp off state Route 16, the one with the serious accident just waiting to happen, would be made much safer with a simple addition: a flashing red light.

It appears that when the state Department of Transportation finishes that high-rise intersection in a couple years or so, it will include a stop signal because of crossing traffic. Why not add some large signage (Stop Ahead) and bold, flashing red lights to make the need to seriously slow down (stop?) more obvious?

It seems like a cheap way to keep someone from crashing through the jersey barriers up there and suing the state. Just a thought.

are you blind??? I think there are at least two flashing yellow lights.. along with two 36″ sized yellow warning signs telling you what lies ahead. If you cant pay attention to simple instructions do the drivers who do pay attention a favor and take the bus from now on. Maybe the dot should hire one of those Little Ceasars street sign waver and make him dance around with a huge arrow…but i dont think that would be enough.

Unfortunately the real DOT mishap is the assumption that all traffic on HWY 16 comes from NB I-5 (merging onto Hwy 16) vs. traffic merging from SB I-5. Traffic headed SB I-5 from Seattle now have to not only merge onto Hwy 16, but “again” on Hwy 16 at Union.

Who was the DOT brainiac who determined this double shoot merging onto Hwy 16 from SB I-5.

Waiting for more mergining halting accidents to happen now that there are two merging points Hwy 16 at 38th and Hwy 16 at Union.

Progress. We used to have lights on SR-16 at Center and Orchard area. Then the “state” asked us to give them 100-million-dollars and they would build a highway-freeway without lights; one that we could just move on through.

    They did a bang-up job didn’t they?

Thanks Paula and thanks Chris! Spend, spend, spend.
