GOVERNMENT: Once upon a time . . .

I’m sitting here sorrowful – and angry. Seems like our government of the people, by the people, and for the people is a USTABE – that is, it used to be something different.

Never before in my 80-some years have I witnessed the bickering, partisan ugliness over vital issues that the current bunch in our nation’s capital have been displaying. I’m a proud ex-federal employee with more than 30 years in honest service to the Air Force and Veteran’s Administration. As such, my service was often defined by what the politicians would allow, but I seldom, if ever, doubted that they too, were serving the American public.

But not today. Today the evidence is clear that we regular folks don’t mean much, if anything, to the scoundrels we elected. My newspaper tells me that my pension and my Social Security payments may be at risk, and even the compensation of servicemen currently fighting an ill- defined “war” if budget bills aren’t completed, my small town post office may be closed for economy, and the list goes on.

But the same issue also tells me Chevron and other large corporations are experiencing maximum profit years and not hiring (unless in Mexico, China or . . .) . It also tells me that my Congress will not reform taxing them, some of whom pay none, or touch our wealthier individuals.

America, where are you?
