PUYALLUP: Martineau is positive and productive

The City of Puyallup has a lot of reasons to celebrate.

Hanging baskets grace Meridian Avenue and Pioneer Park. In the heart of the city, Pioneer Pavilion and the playground are always busy. Other Puyallup parks are also a welcome spot for everyone, from young families to seniors sitting in the sun.

Having had a relationship with the city since the 1990s, I’ve seen many changes. Most recently, it has been very disappointing to see the behavior of some City Council members who insist on engaging in petty arguments. Some are highly disrespectful and bullying.

For the past two years, I’ve watched Nicole Martineau in her position as a council member. She is an obvious professional as she helps to carry out the business of the city. She is smart, strong and always comes to the council meetings well prepared. Those who have attended or viewed council meetings have seen how ably she handles herself under the most difficult circumstances imaginable.

Now she’s running for the council’s at-large position on the council. Her campaign slogan says it all: We need her “For a Positive, Productive Puyallup.” She has my vote.

  1. Ardith, the hanging baskets gracing Meridian and Pioneer Park don’t console me a bit as I pay my higher utility bills (due to a vote from Martineau). You’re right, Martineau does always always comes to the council meetings well prepared. Prepared to vote along with Turner and on her own behalf, not on the behalf of the citizens she is supposed to represent. Remember, she was not elected to the council. She was just appointed by 4 of six members to fill Mr. Dill’s position. Hardly and endorsement by the citizens. She needs to leave the council along with her buddies Turner, Malloy, Brouillet. Any of her opponents would be better.

    Martineau voted yes to:
•Censor citizen speech and require them to sign up to speak at meetings.
•Change meeting start time to 6:00 p.m. against citizen interest.
•Approve modification of the right-of-way for the southerly portion of 9th Street SW Widening Project and terminate efforts in take portions of five properties which resulted in the City having to go back to the original design and pay more in legal fees to receive $3.27 mil in state funds.
•Adopt six-year rate increase for water, sewer, storm water and sanitation utilities.
•Support a $1.60 monthly utility rate increase for next decade to pay the $2 mil landfill lawsuit. ($1.6 mil miraculously appeared months later.)

    Martineau voted no to:
•Hold council meetings consistently on first and third Tuesdays of each month.
•Conduct a feasibility study to move Municipal Court to city hall.
•Give citizens the power of initiative and referendum.

    Thanks James12

Martineau sounds like the same old in-crowd trying to perpetuate itsself.

I think I remember seeing somehing about Mike Deal endorsing her. If anything should be a kiss of death or a wake up call, that should do it.

Deal was one of the worse when he was on the council.

  3. puyallupmutt says:

Martineau is a sorry excuse for a council representitive. She lied at her selection board. She lied about her current employment. She lied about her previous employment. She has falsified facts during debates (example the municipal court relocation). She is despised by an overwhelming majority of her current District.

So her only chance is to run city wide where people barely know her.

Her platform consists of being the only woman running and being a foster parent. If those were grounds for election, Michele Bachmann would be ordianed President of the United States today.

Martineau also lacks intelligence and any ability for holding an attention to detail. Two attributes needed to hold office.

Martineau is a phony. As such she is a perfect candidate replacement for her mentor, the current corrupt mayor, the unworthy real estate scam artist Kathy Turner.

Puyallup citizens can smell a fraud when they sniff hard enough. And Martineau reeks.

Any of the other 3 candidates are more worthy of a vote.
