WAR: End expensive, counterproductive efforts

Re: “Corruption funded Taliban” (TNT, 7-25).

As the United States initially funded the Taliban (and Osama bin Laden) in the 1980s, we continue to do so today with a boost from our corrupt and overpaid contractors.

We took out Iran’s primary Sunni opponents in Iraq, and now wish to defeat their primary Sunni enemy in Afghanistan. So far the biggest winners in these two wars are the ayatollahs. What exactly is our policy?

The maintenance and operation costs of our fortress-embassy in Baghdad comes to $5 billion a year, while our own poor and elderly are under increasing financial attack.

It is long past time to develop a coherent and effective policy and to end these ruinously expensive and counterproductive wars.

Amen, brother! You’re preaching to the choir here!

  2. LarryFine says:

Yes, it’s way past time for O’Bama to live up to his campaign promises.

  3. alindasue says:

President Obama is not the only one to blame in this, nor is he the only one who is having trouble fulfilling campaign promises. (Jobs, anyone?)

There is equal blame and lack of cooperation on all sides. Our “leaders” are too busy bickering among themselves while the “defense” contractors rake in the profits and our soldiers continue to serve repeated tours in places they never should have been sent to to begin with.

  4. LarryFine says:

Kooky, now there’s “equal blame”… sorry, O’Bama is the captain of the ship. The shoe is on the other foot and the it’s high time he wear it.

  5. LarryFine says:

Still kookier… jobs (Joe Biden’s “3 letter word”) O’Bama has been prez for almost 3 years, democrats controlled both houses for 2 of those years, yet you imply republicans some how are supposed to wave a wand and create jobs after 6 months… of controlling one house ???

  6. LarryFine says:

    … that’s what I thought.
