MULTICARE: Find alternatives to layoffs

Re: “MultiCare doctor calls for voluntary wage cuts” (TNT, 7-18).

Our Tacoma neighbors are facing 350 layoffs at MultiCare – a company that can’t figure out any other way to scrape up the millions to pay their executives than to layoff off 350 working people. These are real families who are terrified of the future without health care and no jobs and our state already burdened with unemployment.

One doctor at MultiCare offered to cut his pay. Come on, MultiCare, get creative. Offer early retirement, cut pay for the top, negotiate a cut in pay for everyone, tighten the system’s belt and cut services. But layoffs now? Unbelievable.

Maybe we as a community should launch a protest to save the jobs of our neighbors and embarrass these companies into finding alternatives to destroying families. Really, haven’t we just about had enough of this greed?

  1. Capitalism at its best, for profit insurance and medicine.

  2. TSkidmore says:

Five and half Million for the CEO – immoral and obscene! Comes close to saying what is wrong with the for profit healthcare system in this country….no one should make money from sickness!
