WEINER: Sex scandal doesn’t merit front page

Re: “Lawmaker admits he sent lewd photo” (TNT, 6-7).

Why is the front page graced with yet another story about a politician involved in an absurd sex scandal?

I have some news for you. Stories about our congresspersons who have trouble keeping it zipped are not news. With all the challenges we face as a society, this is not of the slightest importance.

Consensual adult behavior is mainly an issue between the foolish Congressman Anthony Weiner and his wife – and perhaps to his constituents, who are in New York, not Tacoma. The rest of us should care only about his job performance.

  1. barrymor says:

It is news because he lied to everone. He lied to his fellow congressmen, his constituants, and his wife. This is an issue of trust.

  2. concernedtacoma7 says:

His actions speak to his judgement/morals. As a rep in Congress, his votes effect the entire country.

  3. so beit, barrymor and concernedtacoma7, then lets have an anti- Vitter story every day he stays in office. His actions and lying about it were actually criminal, not just creepy and immoral, and he is still in office.

Republicans surely called for his resignation, didn’t they? Well, no, they said by confessing (after denying it many times) the issue should go away and he should be reelected.

The issue is being made much more important because of Republican hypocrisy.

  4. KARDNOS says:

tuddo…how long did Ensign stay in office after his dalliance? They forget so easily.

If Palin moves to AZ and gets Ensign’s seat, all is forgiven….LOL

  5. The guy is a liar and a sexual predator. He should never serve the public again.

  6. SadujTogracse says:

Because it’s much more than just an affair (or affairs) Kathy. It’s about someone in a position of power sending lewd photos to people he doesn’t even know. He opens himself up for major problems when he does something that stupid. Someone like that does not have the judgment it takes to hold elected office.

  7. theglovesRoff says:

And didn’t he sponsor some legislation about sexual predators on the internet or around schools or something like that? (I am sure Kard will come back with all the details for us…)

And If my last name was Weiner I think I would have changed it long ago.

Just think of the possibilities of a hyphenated last name if his wife had the proper last name, or if he married the sister of the current Speaker of the House… :-O :-)

  8. taxedenoughintacoma says:

This pervert rules over all of us. He lied, he lost creditabilty, he has no morals or ethics, or in other words a fine example of liberal NY democrats.

This is front page news and this scum is a discrace and must go.

Put this on the front page http://gawker.com/5809909/anthony-weiners-cock-shot-emerges

  9. KARDNOS says:

Say…how is the Republican House of Representative doing with the budget now that voters have said “get your hands off our Medicare”?

  10. KARDNOS says:

    “theglovesRoff says:

And didn’t he sponsor some legislation about sexual predators on the internet or around schools or something like that? (I am sure Kard will come back with all the details for us…)”

Google broken or just trying to float a rumor?

  11. KARDNOS says:

I’ve got an idea. Have Weiner quit so that we can watch the GOP try to make this an issue for the next election in that district, regardless of who the Democrat is.

We need the GOP to stand for……what they stand for….LOL

  12. KARDNOS says:

I’m wondering where all the outrage was when Newt took up a relationship with a employed subordinate. This could have ended in a sexual harassment suit and cost the government serious money.

Oh…..I forgot. Then Newt was doing his thing he was taking Clinton to task for Monica……

  13. theglovesRoff says:

Liberals, all they can do is live in the past….

Here is the first link from the Google. I don’t vouch for the site, just posted the link (interesting that the Kard can spew lots of info when it supports his side.. LOL).

    Demoweinercrats are hypocrites.

  14. SadujTogracse says:

I haven’t seen anyone in here defending Newt’s behavior. I have seen plenty of lefty’s trying to excuse or make Weiner’s behavior a non-issue (like two LTE writers). Whether you want to admit it or not, it is a serious issue.

  15. Dejen2,
John Ensign had an affair with one of his campaign workers, whose husband was also a member of the campaign staff, and bribed them not to go public.
And he did not resign when it came to light.

David Vetter used a illegal escort service, has not resigned,

So bump you and your fake hypnotically moral outrage.
While he may not have meat these women they were on his twitter account. Ergo they were willing accomplices.
A sexual predator secretly stalks unwitting and unwilling victims. See my comment to S_T.

  16. bobcat1a says:

    Kardnos, you don’t understand:
IOKIYAR (it’s ok if you are republican)

  17. SadujTogracse says:

“While he may not have meat these women they were on his twitter account. Ergo they were willing accomplices”

Oh so I can just send lewd, explicit photos to anyone on my Twitter account? Weiner personally knows everyone on his Twitter account? The woman in Seattle who got the famous underwear picture did not ask for nor want it sent to her. Do a little research before embarrassing yourself.

  18. I am ROFL on all of you who try to break this down to a D v R thing. The man is a perv. Don’t matter which party he’s with. BTW the D’s are coming down on this jerk WAY harder than the R’s. As well they should.

  19. SadujTogracse says:

“Gennette Cordova, the 21-year-old college student ensnared in a lewd Twitter controversy with Rep. Anthony Weiner, said Monday she “had zero inappropriate interactions with him.”

“A sexual predator secretly stalks unwitting and unwilling victims”

So sending explicit pictures to someone who doesn’t want them seems to fit your defintion there xring. I love it when they hang themselves with their own words.

    Read more: http://blog.thenewstribune.com/letters/2011/06/08/empty-space/#ixzz1Ok41xfZ5

  20. KARDNOS says:

A classic. The testimony of the young woman claims nothing inappropriate and yet the Conservatives are bound to make it so……

If she says “nothing inappropriate” then there is no substance to “not wanting” the pictures.

Make it up as you go…..

wlake…..who says that the exchange of naked photos between adults is perverted? If no one is complaining, no damage is done. I think Weiner is stupid, but that doesn’t make him guilty of a crime, as stated.

I still go back to my question about how Brietbart got his hands on the pictures, since he is well known for set ups…….

If Weiner got sucker by Brietbart, shame on him. He has (had) a wife and career…..in THAT order.

  21. KARDNOS says:

Let’s forget the past GOP’s that have taken part in inapproriate behavior so that we can focus on one Democrat.

Meanwhile, how’s the budget doing in the House of Representatives?

  22. Publico says:

He and “it” will go away in a few days. The sooner the better. What we really need is Prof. Krugman lecturing on how to creat jobs and the Congress having the intestinal fortitude to follow through.
Likely? I doubt it, because it would work and the republicans would not like that.

  23. Wiener should resign just to get the story off the front page. David Vitter must resign. He not only is despicable, but he acknowledged criminal activity.

Yet, I saw the Speaker of the House of Representatives (R) attending a fund raiser for Vitter just today, so I guess Repubulicans are just plain hypocrites like we knew all along.

  24. Rollo_Tomassi says:

Weiner’s thing was not that big, I mean he’s really small stones in the context of the daily news, right. Sure he made a boner, but it doesn’t mean you have to be so hard on him.

  25. SadujTogracse says:

Kardnos spinning what I wrote again, try quoting it directly next time. ” had zero inappropriate interactions with him” meaning she did not have any sexual interactions over the phone or internet. Again, she did not ask for the picture to be sent, he did that without her consent. Something a sexual predator would do. I don’t go around sending naked pictures to someone just because they are on my Twitter account or my Facebook friend. Apparantly Kardnos feels that normal behavoir no wonder he is defending him (and yes if you are not calling for him to resign you are defending him). Take a lesson from Ed Schultz Kardnos, Weiner needs to resign.

  26. S_T
Take you own advice and learn how one becomes a member of someone else’s twitter account.

And, hello, anyone can send any type of message or picture over a cell phone. You know those little phones most people use.

If you’ve seen plenty of lefty’s defending Weiner you are a liar. Show me one post on this blog that defends his actions.

And posts refudiating other posts don’t count.

So if Ms Cordova ‘had zero inappropriate interactions with [Weiner] to whom did he send the nasty photo.

If you were not a hypocrite you would be calling for both Weiner and Vetter to resign.

  27. SadujTogracse says:

As I stated earlier if you are not calling for his resignation or calling this a “minor scandal” as one LTE writer said then you are defending him. I did call for Vitter to resign, so you’re wrong again on that point.

Cordoval had zero inapportiate interactions PRIOR to him sending the famous picture that she didn’t ask for. It doesn’t matter how one becomes a member of someone else’s Twitter account, the point is you DON’T SEND PHOTS to people you either don’t know or barely know and who didn’t ask for them. Especially if you are a Federal Representative with a lot of power. CAPICHE?

  28. LarryFine says:

You have to admit this whole ‘thing’ is kooky… really. Mr. Weiner sends his weiner unsolicited. i wonder if he fancies weiner dogs.

  29. nonstopjoe says:

I imagine Walter Mondale’s saying “Where’s the beef?”

  30. NWflyfisher says:

Kathy Gillman: So, you don’t believe a seated U.S. Congressman getting caught in sexual predation of women on the Internet is a front page story? What proof did he (or you, for that matter) have that made him so certain the women he was stalking weren’t minors posing as being of legal age? I’m shocked that you, a woman, would not find this a story of importance warranting front page coverage.

  31. NWflyfisher says:

This headline somewhere had me LMAO: “Pelosi Wants Weiner Probe.”
What if Pelosi said publicly that she wanted Weiner to resign? Would the headline then be “Pelosi Wants Weiner Out”?

  32. I think Weiner should withdraw.

    That’s what she said.

  33. Even his fellow demokrats want him gone, that’s a first. Charlie Rangel is still using up valuble space at the Capital. He is nothing but a thief and a liar. At least the discussion has moved away from trying to blame Breitbart for being a messenger. I for one am happy to watch the big mouth WEINER get his comeuppance, it’s well deserved. The guy is a complete nut-job. It should be on the front page as long as the creep is sucking oxygen out of the Capital Building.

  34. NWflyfisher, I’m not at all surprised that the letter writer finds this story to be unimporatnt. She’s obviously a liberal. They only get offended when a republican is caught doing something wrong.

  35. menopaws says:

The letter is correct……..We lost some soldiers in Iraq this week: there is a new aggressive military push along the border in Afghanistan: the work on the debt ceiling and the deficit continues. Yet, in our tabloid news world–this is the story that is on the front page and cable news?????Yeah, the guy is not only weird, he is stupid. But, trust me, in the world of politicians that is NOT news. Democrat, Republican doesn’t much matter. You can quit arguing about which party has the most perverts—it’s a draw. But, why is this crap more important than losing our soldiers in Iraq? And, what does it say about not only the press, but us, that it is more important? We kept allowing the scum to the top of the pile…….That just tells me how screwed up we have become. News reporting won’t get better until we quit buying into the tabloid and start demanding some serious stories.Mr. Weiner may be news–but nothing about him or his sick story is worthy of the front page or the lead story ANYWHERE. Go buy a National Enquirer at the supermarket……and tell cable news to start doing their real job.

  36. This gives a whole new meaning to a “weenie roast”. Maybe Oscar Meyer should re-name their product from “weiner” to “whiner”. Then we could have a “whiner roast”, that would also alleviate a lot of the social problems we have. Hot Dog!! I’m on to something here!

  37. menopaws “tell cable news to start doing their real job”? That’s a laugh. Where would you begin? Let me guess…. Ah ha, Fox News, right? According to you liberals, Fox is the only lying network on T.V. As for the tragic loss of life of the soldiers in Iraq, I haven’t heard anyone on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC or MSNBC call for a withdrawal of troops from Afganistan or Iraq, as a matter of fact, they seem to be quite comfortable with our involvement in Libya, Yemen and soon other countries in the Mid East. I don’t see anarchists blocking highways, seaports or demonstrating outside the gates of our miliatary installations. Isn’t it amazing how a change of leadership in the White House can sooth the nut jobs?

  38. LarryFine says:

I have been thinkingthe same thing frosty. No more daily reports of casualties. No more Harry Reid(s) claiming the war is lost… but flamo still is tethered to the nutty left talking points about war crimes… kooky.
Hey Kathy, “consensual adult behavior ” in the work place gets ordinary people fired every day!

  39. LarryFine, we won’t see any anti -war rhetoric coming from the sheeple as long as their leader is in the White House. If that isn’t an indictment on the drive-by media, what is? Nothing else needs to be said about liberalism.

  40. Even Nancy Pelosi wants Weiner out…

  41. KARDNOS says:

    Leper….no…she wants an investigation.

LF – Hey Kathy, “consensual adult behavior ” in the work place gets ordinary people fired every day!”

Unless you are Newt Gingrich and are boinking your aide while attacking the President for an indescretion and you’re married.

  42. KARDNOS says:

Protest in Minneapolis in the United States on March 21, 2011 against the American military intervention in Libya

Beginning on March 19, 2011, and continuing through the 2011 military intervention in Libya, anti-war protests against military intervention in Libya were held in many cities worldwide.

frosty….you really need to get away from FOX and the right wing blogs more often

  43. KARDNOS says:

There are pictures, too, frosty….if the words are too difficult.

  44. old_benjamin says:

Weiner went to a lot of trouble to cover up what he did. Obviously, he was subject to being blackmailed before the facts came out. That’s not a good thing for people in public office. Do I need to point that out?

  45. menopaws says:

To all of you—yes, Fox News, also CNN and MSNBC……..You all want to paint me with some partisan brush……….Here’s the deal–cable news is just dreadful………ALL of it………And, I am offended by Anthony Weiner, by John Ensign—party doesn’t matter. But, OUR obsession with this crap does matter. Maybe this country would be in a lot better shape if people got off their sofas and went out and volunteered or went to a community meeting…..Instead of relying on marginal news organizations with their own corporate agendas who work very hard to distract us from the important news in this country………..It is just shameful how we lap this stuff up—we parked our brains in the garbage can and can’t seem to climb out……..So, quit sliming me with this partisan brush……..I watch BBC and CBS, and Canadian Broadcasting……….I find ALL cable news offensive and little more than propaganda……..Putting this story on the front while neglecting our real problems is calculated distraction.

  46. Roncella says:

Liberals defended Clinton when his affair with Lewinsky was exposed, and many other women, liberals defended John Edwards with his affair, and now many are defending Wiener with his exposure of sexual pictures and more.

Its amazing the low moral standards liberals hold for their heros like Clinton, Edwards, Wiener, so many others.

  47. And Roncella,

Are you equally surprised or amazed with the low moral standards conservatives hold for their heroes who have strayed?

Neither political party should claim the moral high ground when it comes to stupidity and questionable ethics.

  48. Roncella says:

JW D1, The discussion is about democrat Weiner. Everyone understands there is dirty sheets to be found in both democrats and republicans parties. Stop being so defensive.

  49. Weiner is now the poster boy for Democrat family values.

  50. Every rightwinger on this thread is big on calling Weiner names, and calling for him to resign.

However, not a single one of you called for Ensign or Vetter to resign.

Which proves all of you are hypocrites.

  51. SadujTogracse says:

“However, not a single one of you called for Ensign or Vetter to resign.”

First of all that’s a lie, many conservatives including myself called for Vitter to resign. Secondly Weiner’s behavior was much more than just a secret affair. It was sending explicit photos to anonymous people who he didn’t know or barely knew at best. I know it’s hard for you to see the difference with your political blinders on, but there is one.

  52. KARDNOS says:

When did Saduj Togracse call for Vitter’s resignation?

The Vitter story was in 2002.

I don’t recall seeing “Saduj Togracse: in 2002……

    What’s a lie?

  53. SadujTogracse says:

I wasn’t commenting at the TNT in 2002 Kardnos. I believe you were over at another newspaper site down south. That site is so peaceful now!

  54. menopaws says:

Pay attention here people–it has nothing to do with partisan crap!!! That is the whole point — to keep you arguing and distracted………You are being “managed” by the media–on CNN, FOX, MSNBC……..Be very clear here–this is to keep you occupied and out of the faces of the health care industry, the oil companies, the Wall Street banks–be clear—media games by corporations render both sides of the political spectrum impotent……..Wake up and send all of them a message—and, while you are at it–call your Congressman–right, left–doesn’t matter…..Wake up and start bugging all of them…write a letter, go to a meeting…Quit bitching and start making a difference……Weiner is a weiner–what are we going to be?

  55. The Vitter story goes on and on because Republicans have not yet called for his resignation, but give him millions of dollars. If Wiener’s story belongs on the front page, Vitter’s does too, in fact more so, because Vitter is a confessed criminal.

  56. I for one am looking forward for the annual 4th of July barbeque, weenies will be at the top of the list. This is just too good to put on the back burner for now. What’s really fun is to read all of the comments about how unimportant all of this is from liberals.

  57. NWflyfisher says:

    Posting this as an FYI:

Kirsten Powers, Democrat political analyst (and friend of Anthony Weiner) puts much gives her take in her Daily Beast column (with Vitter comparison): http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2011-06-08/anthony-weiners-ex-kirsten-powers-he-lied-to-me/

  58. NWflyfisher says:

scratch the “gives much” in my previous post. I didn’t edit very well prior to posting. sorry.

  59. NW: I copied the article and did a word search and could not find the word “Vitter” in her article. She obliquely references it and says she generally does not think sex scandals should affect a politician’s elected position. If you found it, I would ike to know what she said.

Nevertheless, her article, is a salacious smear job full of her restating all the rumors going around and anonymous tips and other gossip. She got all worked up because he lied to her personally, and she thought he was a close friend. Also, she thinks his attitude toward women by asking them to perform certain actions affects his judgement.

She has a right to her opinion, but there is no factual “news” in the thing. I don’t think we should start linking to opinion pieces that bolster one opinion or the other. There are many commentors out there that say Vitter should resign, but I don’t think it serves a purpose for me to post them, even as an fyi.

Wiener actions are disgusting, and if I were in his constituency I would campaign against him. However, parties and politicians who call for his resignation and still support criminal sexual behavior by other high elected officials are rightly called hypocrites and should be called out for that.

    btw, has Vitter resigned yet?

  60. LarryFine says:

2002 is almost a decade ago… Barney Frank didn’t resign… either time… heck, what about Chuckie Rangle ? He was cheating the IRS… he hasn’t resigned… there’s scoundrels on both sides.
Weiner is exposed at the moment… it’s called ‘current affairs’. Of course the left doesn’t like it (same reason the right doesn’t like it when one of theirs acts inappropriately)… hence the calls from the left for him to resign and the d.o.c. we see taking place by our lefty friends here. The longer he tries to hold on to his position the longer we will be hearing about him.

  61. NWflyfisher says:

Tuddo: I did a word search of my post and didn’t see where I said anything about “factual news”.

Most simple sex scandals probably don’t rise to the level of being illegal. However, Weiner engaged in internet sexual predation and sexual stalking, pure and simple. If you don’t think that’s a crime then that’s your opinion; fine. Personally, I believe his activity far exceeds “disgusting” as you suggest. Most view internet predation and sexual stalking as criminal.

    Has Weiner resigned yet?

That’s the last I have to say on the subject, Have a great day.

yeah….a couple of days ago, you clowns got the moderator posting at you and shut down the thread because of your infantile fixation with “Weiner”…..

Peaceful, indeed, if your mind is blank.

As to not commenting in the TNT in 2002…THANKS. You made my point for me. You can say you said anything and there is not one shred of evidence of it. Your MO.

  64. Actually, as I recall…in December of 2009, a Blog arose from the ashes of lack of interest by its owner and became the powerful media it is today, due to the Conservative Clowns (falling out of the little car) shutting down that newspaper’s threads everyday.
