Referring to the recent editorial (TNT, 5-18) and a letter to the editor (5-20) regarding Sound Transit’s inability to finish the project as it promised all taxpayers in the three participating counties.
Sound Transit has not been a hallmark of efficiency and effectiveness, utilizing smoke and mirrors at public meetings to gain more funding. Its process for design and construction has utilized at least unethical practices while performing public domain actions. Perhaps the transit authority is too beholden to Seattle/King County politics.
Before any additional funding is asked for by the “good old boy” directors, a completely independent audit should be performed of the co-mingling of various taxpayer funding, cost overruns and the percentage of costs that the administration affects the budget.
The auditors should be completely independent of any political ties and selected by an independent body not associated with the politics of the three counties and state.
