SOUND TRANSIT: TNT fails to educate readers

Re: “Too soon for Sound Transit to write off Pierce County” (editorial, 5-18).

The comments on your editorial indicate a clear failure of the newspaper to inform your readers.

Your writers make no mention of the fact that Sound Transit funds collected in Pierce County are spent in Pierce County. Funding is down because tax collection in these specific areas is down. Simple.

In fact, the editorial seeks to stir up resentment directed at Seattle by insinuating that money collected in the South King County and Pierce County areas is being spent on Seattle projects. That is clearly not true.

The News Tribunes comment section continues to be filled with rumor, demonstrable falsehoods and rampant ignorance. Perhaps your staff could take a look at the comments and make an effort to gear articles towards clearing up commonly held misconceptions amongst your readers.

Give light and people will find their way. Flick the switch.

Telling the truth goes against everything the Pravda of the US stands for. Socialism, communism and govt control of thought and deed

Hogwash, ST has been a scandal and a disgrace since day one. And the News Buffoon has been running interference for them all along.

Here’s a couple facts that can not be disputed: The vast majority of Pierce County residents will receive nothing of value for all the money they have poured into Sount Transit. Most receive no value from all the money dumped into Pierce Transit. If people want more bus and train travel, pay for it. My personal transportation costs compared to the heavily subsidised bus and train fares, AND the buses are harder on the streets, as well. My 42mpg Goldwing will cost almost 100 bucks to register this year, and only 30 of that is a licence. The rest is for transit of some sort. Bite Me!!!

Cody, just because you don’t happen to agree with comments you read in the comments section of the paper does not give you a right to charge that they are rumors, falsehoods, ignorant, and the rest.

Maybe the News Tribune should summit all letters to you before putting them in the Newspaper for your approval..

Roncella — Hi. My letter stands. The comments on the referenced editorial were rife with factual statements that were incorrect.

My charge, if you read carefully, is that the News Tribune is failing to fulfill its mission to provide the information the public needs in order to come to an educated opinion.

My goal is to encourage the News Tribune staff to look to the comments section to help suss out particulars in coverage that seem to be consistently unclear to readers.
