Re: “A Puget Sound treasure chest” (TNT, 4-12).
As a longtime board member of the Foss Waterway Seaport, I am very excited that we were able to purchase the late Bill Somers’ collection. His Museum of Puget Sound on Stretch Island was a treasure that was becoming more and more a destination for people who loved maritime history and discovered it.
Housed in an old winery, the collection of pictures and artifacts of Mosquito Fleet and other Puget Sound maritime history were displayed in a way that was a major “wow.” The museum was open weekends May through September. We are glad the collection was not broken up and is at the Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma but will miss Somers’ outstanding Stretch Island museum.
