BILLBOARDS: Council should reconsider decision

I moved to Tacoma three years ago from sunny Southern California. Although I had heard that Tacoma was the “armpit of Seattle,” I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful city with history and culture. I was pleased to hear of the efforts to improve areas such as Hilltop where my daughter currently resides.

Then I heard of the proposed electronic billboards that were unanimously approved by our City Council and was horrified. I thought the goal was to make Tacoma more beautiful, not to add to the blight of billboards that already exist here.

Many cities, including Denver, have managed to ban these ugly, obnoxious, energy-hogging billboards. Why can’t Tacoma? Where is our civic pride?

Please reconsider this decision.

Follow the money. The city must pay for the firefighter raise they gave today. What do you want them to do?? They have no other choice that polute your streets.

And their reward will be you re-elect them in Nov.

  2. And ignore the facts that the contract was negotiated between city and union officials, and that the contract is expected to save the city $825,000 over the next four years.

Unlike Denver, our city council members sometimes place their heads in a place where the digital billboards can’t shine.

Don’t believe me? Ask around about a “free pagoda” given to the city or the council’s policy on illegal aliens and the illegal sale of marijuana.

PS: Welcome to Tacoma, where the liberals rule the city, until the next local election.

  4. Tacoma the armpit? Whoever told you that obviously never visited seattle’s crotch; take your pick:
    pioneer square
    capitol hill
    white center
    etc, etc, etc
