A massive, cancerous growth is festering that directly impacts Tacoma’s citizens, threatening our personal health, safety, welfare and homes.
This monster blinds your eyes, invades your senses and even tells where to go, what to do, where to shop and eat – even what to think. It’s rooting itself in our community, disfiguring our cityscapes and degrading our residential neighborhoods. Once it invades, it’s impossible to eradicate.
The disease is Clear Channel Outdoor Inc.’s mega LED billboards, and they must be stopped.
Ironically, newly proposed these digital billboards will be even more nonconforming than what Tacoma suffers with already. No studies on traffic, safety, light, noise (yes, they are noisy) or environmental impacts have been completed.
Washington outlawed phoning while driving because taking your eyes off the road is too dangerous. Yet mega billboards are 14-by-48 fee, thousands of times larger, brighter and more distracting than any phone screen.
Yearly electricity consumption per sign would power 12 homes. Yet Clear Channel says it “is committed to going green and helping shape a more sustainable future”?
Hundreds of cities nationwide are fighting electronic billboards this very second.
Friday is the deadline to submit comments to Tacoma’s Planning Commission. Residents need to contact their City Council members. Keep current with the “Turn Out That Light Tacoma” Facebook page.
Do not let Tacoma be further polluted by Clear Channel’s septic ideas.
