TACOMA: Paid parking drove group away

About six or seven years ago, I joined a nonprofit organization in Tacoma. I now belong to two. One of those groups had a regular meeting at a coffee shop on Broadway. It’s a great place to meet and greet friends.

We no longer meet in Tacoma because the city now charges for on-street parking on Broadway. Our members were getting ticketed.

Tacoma is a great town, but its elected officials have made the same mistakes governments all over the U.S. are making. Politics is about too many people wanting a piece of the pie. I miss my Saturdays at Tully’s.

I park downtown often and have never been ticketed.

Tacoma is a terrific city… For using as a reference point for out of towners to avoid. The next time I see that stupic Tacoma the all American city is in my rear view as I finally get to leave the gulag of the soviet state of Washington

  3. Poor Tacoma is in the hands of a mayor and city council who are not responsible and able to deal with the current recession that is affecting everyone.

The TaxPayers in Tacoma need to Clean House as soon as possible on all the them, and do a Start Over.

Roncella, lets face facts…… If it is on the west side of the mtns it needs to be obliterated and begun anew

Gawd, when will people get over paid parking in Tacoma? Every major city in the state has it: Seattle, Olympia, Bellingham, Spokane and I could go on. Actions like this only punish downtown retailers, NOT the city government. As a downtown business owner, I like the fact that my customers will always have a place to park. Saturday parking is $1.50 for the entire day. If you got a ticket, you didn’t do it right.

  6. I wouldn’t pay 50 cents for 12 hours of parking in downtown Tacoma. That goes double for Seattle. But I don’t feel the need to punish myself by visiting downtown Tacoma. The merchants will probably do just fine without my patronage anyway.

I believe that I said that this would happen when they first started charging for parking. I haven’t been to the downtown area since October and don’t plan to go back.
