IMMIGRATION: Kilmer’s position was mischaracterized

Re: “Olympia fails on driver’s license reform” (letter, 3-16).

The writer got it wrong. She was at the town hall meeting where Derek Kilmer stated his support for a bill requiring proof of residence to get a driver’s license. Yet in her letter, she says Kilmer voted against the bill.

But anyone can go online and see the bill wasn’t brought forward for a vote (click here). Rather there were some procedural shenanigans to try to bring a number of bills forward out of order. Kilmer opposed that, because rather than focusing on playing partisan games, he is focused on getting things done for our community.

Not requiring proof of citizenship or a SSN for a drivers license is “getting things done for the community”????!!

Kilmer talks out of both sides of his mouth. He knew that 4507 was the ONLY bill with a chance to improve our drivers lic. security. If he is for the idea then why would he vote to kill a bill that his own party wrote. He wanted to kick the can down the road and secerty wants I-1122 to solve this problem so he and his dem buddies don’t have to deal with it. Kilmer is a coward on this issue.
